Default Alarm when powered off

On the 77xx series BlackBerry, is it possible to have the alarm function even when the power is turned off? In other words, will the device power itself up to initiate the alarm function?

Thanks!

In my experience - it depends..!!

On my 7730 if I turn the BB off by hitting the backlight / off button (silver lower right) then the alarm function works when the BB if off. If however I select "Turn Power Off" on the screen then the alarm does not work

I always use the silver button

In terms of saving power on the device, or any other benefits/drawbacks, what is the difference between using the silver power button to turn the unit off as opposed to using the "Power Off" option in the OS?

Sorry I do not know. Actually I usually leave mine switched on 24/7 and the charge lasts a week with my normal usage (only a few phone calls, plus all the other data stuff)

Alright. On a related note then, if the power is off using the silver button, and the alarm is activated, bringing the unit out of standby, after I turn the alarm off will the unit go back into standby immediately or remain active?

Thanks, once again.

You can probably use the auto on/off feature to turn your handheld on before the alarm is set to go off.

For me it powers up and stays on.

I read in other posts however that the feature does not always work (don't know why!!) so basically you have to test it to see if it works before you depend on it to wake you up for a vital flight!!!

As I said, I leave mine switched on anyway

I just tested it with my 7280 and the alarm did not turn on the BB. You might want to use the auto on/off feature which was mentioned above.

Default Alarm when powered off

If the auto off feature is used, will the phone still ring on my 7100 if I get a call in the middle of the night?

Only if you can predict at what time the phone will ring. The auto on/off feature is a timer that tells the phone at what time(s) to turn on/off.

Is it possible to set the backlight (on a 77XX series) to come on when the alarm goes off?

I have an 8703e and the phone powers on automatically when the alarm is supposed to go off. I turned off the power using the silver button on the top.

Doesn't it ask you if you want to perform a full power off (will not wake up for alarms) or not? Maybe that's just on OS 4.1+?
