Question Problem using 8100 as a Modem

Please Login to Remove!

Hi everyone. I hope there is an expert out there that can help me. I successfully got my Pearl to function as a modem for a few weeks. But ever since I got a call while surfing, which kicked me offline, I cannot get it to work again. First series of email messages referred to the remote computer not working and after re-installing the desktop software (the latest T-Mobile version), deleting the modem and setting up a new one, I now get a message that says that the there was a hardware failure in the modem or other connecting device.

I did the query modem test and it if working fine.

help!

Thanks

Did you remember to modify the modem extra initialization string?

Usually hardware failure means the device needs to be reset. Try a different USB port on your computer and have it install the modem drivers on a new com port then create a new dialup connection.

HI. I followed your advice and reset everythingincluding re-doing the modem set up, uninstalling and re-installing desktop manager, etc. I have made some progress as now it does dial but quits while trying to verify the username and password. I have tried that both ways - with my phone number and password for My T-Mobile and blank as per the isntructions. Both time out and disconnect.

Any more thoughts?

Mine does that occasionally. Pull the battery and do a reset-

Did not work. Says Error 718 - the remote computer did not respond in a timely manner.

Any other ideas? Change the initialization string?

I am having the same issues as well. Have yet to find a resolve. All worked well then just failed to connect after a couple of weeks. I get teh Error 718 after trying to verify username and password.

Hi again. I just got a new laptop and tried to set this up again. Here is where I am stumped. I am getting the "hardware failure in modem" error message so I reset everything - the battery in the BB, re-installed the desktop software, etc. Still the error message. So I pulled out the old laptop and tried it and everything works fine, suggesting that the problem is not the BB but somewhere in the new laptop.

Any suggestions?

Same problem here. Connection lost while surfing and now times out at user name and password verification.

Is it possible that T-Mobile has done something?

I was having the same issue and T-Mo told me to reset the phone and then to take out the battery. This worked, but then I had the problem again and they had to send a signal to my phone. It has worked ever since. You may want to see if they can do that to you.
