Both my wife and I have new 8830's - mine through a corporate program, both on Sprint service. I also have an iPod stereo headset/earbuds. iPod uses a 3.5mm connection, the 8830 has a 2.5mm connection. I got a stereo adapter but still only get sound on the right speaker/headset/earbud. We've tried an iPod headset, a PSP headset, both work on other devices in 2-ear stereo. We tried two stereo adapters, same problem. I called Sprint Tech Support - they said the 8830 "plays stereo music through only one speaker" (unbelievable...). Can anyone help me to figure out why we're not getting stereo music/sound? Both 8830's have this problem, so unless it's an option or Theme setting (can't find one), it seems like there's some bigger issue I'm missing here...

It's likely the adapter you got. Most of the adapters available at cell phone kiosks, Radio Shack, etc. won't work on the BB. Order one from Seidioonline.com and it should work.

I received an adapter from Seidio and after installing I could only hear out of one side....

I spoke with a buddy I work with today who told me he had the same problem, got an adapter at BestBuy for about the same price as the Seidio that works in (two-ear!) stereo. (I still can't believe that response from Sprint Tech Support...) I'm going to give that a try since it's a local pick up and I can return it if there's a problem. If it works, I'll post here on model and cost as an FYI....

But I appreciate the Seidio website info - good to know some sources for stuff as I pick up this new obsession....

Yeah, the BB is quite picky about what adapter it will use.

I got an adapter from Verizon that works well. Although you do have verizon service, I assume it should work for your sprint 8830.

also, the adapter has a built-in microphone, so you can also use it has a headset

I'm not sure why the Blackberry is so sensitive, but it seems to be true. I found a "Just Wireless" adapter at BestBuy for $15.95 with a mic built-in and a retractable cord, a clip to make the mic stay where I want, and a click-to-answer button. Works fine - I tried it at the store first to make sure.

Really, I just needed to be able to listen to music, but the rest is handy if I get a call while listening... Standing around in airports so often, it's bound to happen anyway....

Thanks for the help and suggestions - service gets turned on Wednesday night, and I'm sure I'll have lots of questions when it does!

We also recommend that you plug your headset into our adapter before plugging it into the phone.

I have an 8830 from Verizon thru my company.
I listen to a lot of MP3s while travelling, and decided to use the 8830 as an MP3 player as well.
I figured I could use my Ultimate Ears super-fi 3s, but, as well all know, the 8830 has 2.5mm 3-way jack whereas as most audiophile earphones have a 2-way 3.5mm plug.
So, I bought an adapter ($8 on line). I had the same problem as the rest of you guys (sound in right ear only), at first. I got kind of pissed, and unplugged the adapter from the 8830 and slammed it back in. Guess what? It worked! Stereo! So now, I plug the adapter in, turn on the music, unplug the adapter, and plug it in again. It works every time.
The sound is kind of light on bass; I'm not sure if that's the adapter's fault or the 8830's.
Unfortunately, my super-fi 3s don't have a mic; they're audiophile listening earphones after all.
I'm gonna try the Sennheiser MM50s; they're supposed to be a good compromise. We'll see if the 8830 plays nice with them and gives me stereo sound.

Get the Verizon 3.5 to 2.5 adaptor and with it you will get a volume control and a switch to recieve calls with along with a clip to attach it to your clothing. Works like a charm and extends the length of the headset as well. So, you can use your regular good quality headphones with it and still answer calls. You can order it at Verizonwireless.com. No shipping charges! Works for me.

But if i decide to buy a whole new set of earbuds that have a 2.5 mm stereo jack, will that work on my 8830 (instead of finding a particular adapter that works b/c i dont care for the 3.5 mm earbuds i have no anyways)?

I bought the Seidio adapter for my 8820 and had the same problem (one ear only).

SOLUTION: It was simple.

I just took a round toothpick and gently pried up the contacts inside the adapter on the 3.5mm side. The contacts are little tabs and one wasn't bent out far enough to make contact with the plug when inserted.

Works like a charm now!

I use the Seidio adapter and it works well -- need to be sure to get the 2.5mm adapter for the 8830, also need to be sure the plug is "seated" all the way.
