Wirelessly posted (8700g: BlackBerry8700/4.2.1 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/100)

See http://blackberryfaq.com/index.php/H..._BlackBerry%3F. Don't know if you'll get everything you want from blackberry, though. (Or get what you want with an 8700)

I dont know if the 8700 was the right device for you... Im pretty sure that it doesnt have BT file transfers or a media player... The 8100 and 8300 series may be more what you are looking for... i could be wrong.

Easy answer, Carrie: On the 8700, you can't send files and mp3 music via bluetooth. An upgrade won't do you much good.

And you're not an idiot.

Carrie, the link to upgrade instructions and to download your Operating System was posted just above if you looked and will read it through, you will see it is a step by step guide of how to do so.

Oh! My bad! I didn't realize that she still wanted to upgrade. I thought she wanted to manage the device, hence the link to DM. And I am not sure on the device capabilities but can't she transfer using DM and a USB?

Yes- to upgrade the OS (Operating System) on your phone, start by downloading the Blackberry Desktop Manager software to your home computer. Just click on the link from aiharkness' first post and follow the 1-2-3 directions.
Also- I think you'll need a data cable- i think the 8700c uses a standard type of USB cable, so if you didn't get one with your phone, you might have one from a camera or other device that will fit with your phone.

For the Desktop Manager, you need the one labeled Version 4.2, Service Pack 2, withOUT Roxio Media Manager.

If you are CERTAIN that you need to upgrade the OS...
For the handheld Operating System, you need this, and follow the instructions as posted EXACTLY.

I have a BB 8700 with 4.2 OS and I can send files, pictures and MP3's through bluetooth with no problems.
