Default 8820 battery life out of holster

I've been keeping my 8820 in "standby mode" (hitting mute button and locking keyboard) in my pocket, not in the holster. I've noticed the battery life is less than impressive.

Is there something about being in the holster which causes the device to use less power? If so, is there a way I can put it into the same low power mode out of the holster?

Yes, there is a magnet in the holster. While in the holster, the BB goes into a super standy mode. U save a lot of battery in theholster

Is there anyway I can replicate the lower power mode if I keep the device in my pocket? There must be a setting for this. I'm not fond of phones and pda's hanging off my belt.

The best you can do is try to get your backlight and etc to be on for the min time.

I auto shutoff my 8820 every night from 1am to 5am. It doesn't sound like much, but it's conserving 120 hours of battery life a month.
