Default 8310 Faulty GPS?

Please Login to Remove!

No I think I already know its faulty, but has anyone had, and fixed, a problem where whenever you go to options>advanced>gps and try to refresh it, its sits for about 3 minutes then says its unable to get a gps fix (or something along those lines). I've sat it next to another 8310 and that one is fine so its not a signal issue.

Was just curious if anyone had fixed it with a software flash or if its fubarred!!??

I too am having no joy with this.

If I go to OPTIONS/ADVANCED/GPS

the GPS DATA SOURCE says "DEVICE GPS"

but all the GPS location data is default 0's.

I've only had this a week.

Anyone got any ideas?

Joel

If the unit has never got a fix it can take a while. The GPS receiver is very weak and may take trying over and over again.

If you go into Options > Advanced Options > GPS
do you also see that GPS Services = Location On

Maybe it's set for 911 only.

(Not sure if this is an option on the 8310.)

Basically, it needs to render the gps for the first time.

P.S. I don't encounter a problem on mine and it refreshes like in 15 to 30 seconds.

Thanks for the confirmation, crossbones.

GPS refresh on a new device (or a newly wiped/reloaded OS) can take up to ten minutes for the first lock on the GPS.

And, you need to have the device outside in a clear view of the sky.

Ditto to what JSanders wrote above. No joking around. It will take gps a *long* time to lock when started the first time. If you are new to it, then it seems to take forever. And you should move into the open with a clear view of the sky if you are not. Also FYI you may find it takes a long time to lock when you start it in a location far from the previous location where the unit was last used. And you will find that the gps can maintain a lock on a weaker signal than it takes to get a lock.
