Default 4GB Media Issues

Please Login to Remove!

Hi all,

I just recently became an owner of a 8130 Pearl and I am having some issues with my newly purchased media card. It is a scandisk 4GB. When I put it in my phone, it says "Media card cannot be read. Verify that the memory card is formatted"

Ok fair enough, I tried to format it through that screen and it keeps telling me format failed. So then I took out the card, put it in its adapter and put it in my computer and formatted from there. It says it worked. So I throw a couple songs on it and put it back in my phone. It still says the exact same thing!!! Also, there is an option through the blackberry media card menu that says "install media card", when I click this it doesnt do a damn thing! What is going on, can anyone help??

I was told the 8130 can have 4GB, unless the salesman was wrong which is definitely possible. Do I maybe need the newest operating system?? Any help is greatly appreciated!!

You gotta format the card on the pc first, then put it in the phone and format it there (options-media card, mass storage on, format). You can't format it in the phone if you threw some music on it first because the 4 folders aren't on it yet. It has to be blank.
Formatting in the phone then puts the 4 folders on it and then you add music, etc. Try that. I think 4gb is OK.

I have a question, when you put the card in, should you keep the auto enable mass storage mode when connected in prompt or should you change it to yes?

I don't want the pc to prompt me to enable mass storage mode everytime I plug it in. But if you do then select prompt.

Hi there regarding the 4GB memory card on a Blackberry 8130.

I just bought a BB 8130 and also the 4GB card. It works Great!!

The steps to follow:

Format the SD card in your PC.

Once the card is formated, insert the SD card in your BB device.

A new folder will be automatically created in the SD card.

To add music or any other files:

You can either do it through your BB desktop manager app, or insert the music straight from your PC to your SD Card.

The music can be stored in different directories (which is great), it lets you organise your albums.....

I hope it helps!!

i havent had to format on a PC ever. i just format on the device and things work fine. keep in mind the Pearl 2 also supports the higher memory cards (above 4gb) since it has OS 4.3. also welcome to the forums

6gb wont give you any issues on the 8130, 8120, or 8110. You *might* have an issue on any other device, but usually it would only show the 4gb space limit and partition off the rest.

SDHC should be FAT32 (I am pretty sure). you should not have to format it at all though. I have gone through dozens of media cards on various devices and have not formatted any of them. make sure to turn encryption off, place the card in, and turn ON media card support. Insert the card and you should be good to go.

i have checked both options ... encrypt is off and mass storage is on... bottom states media card can not be read. verify that the memory card is formatted... I have put it in my computer and im showing its ready to go.. but there are no bb folders on it...Do i need to check for update firmware for the device?

you should not need to. make sure the contacts are clean on the media card and that it is inserted all the way into the side slot on the 8130. you should be able to close the door with no issues on the slot. also, when inserting it, you should feel slight resistance, like you are pushing down a spring (because you are)
