First thing to try is hard reset. If you haven't tried, do that and see if it's the cure,

Wait and see what others say. Maybe it's hardware.

Is it under warranty?

How strange, I had the same thing happen yesterday. I searched here a lot and finally called Tmo. Mine is still under warrenty so they are sending a replacement. But how very strange ours both would go out yesterday!

Has it ever gotten wet? Pull the battery and look for the sticker. If it's red, that may be why it stopped working right.

But the issue you are having was a common complaint back when I was a T-Mobile rep. A software reload almost always fixed it.

Quick question, when you took out the battery was your Pearl left on or did you turn it off first?

Dropping it can cause this problem, too.

I realize you were actually talking to me, but since I have the same problem, I thought I would answer too.

1. Mine has never gotten wet, nor has it been recently dropped.

2.What do you mean a software reload? I downloaded and reinstalled the last Tmo, but it didn't say anything when I restarted the desktop manager, like it did when I upgraded to this version in the past.

3. The phone was on.

I still can't hear, except via the speaker.

Default same problem, tmobile says "known issue"

Per TMO support, I tried the battery removal, then completely wiped/restored it using Desktop manager. No dice. According to support that "usually" works. Mine, too , went out of warranty in November. Can't find anything about the issue on the RIM 'support' site, but TMobile says it's very common. Can anyone say ... class action?

I call hardware. I have a boss that has been through two for this reason. The do sell the ear piece speaker at several sites and they are pretty cheap.

Sounds like you lowest cost option.

Sorry for your trouble!
