Default Is there a way to enable GPS feature on the 8830?

Please Login to Remove!

Has anyone figured out how to enable the GPS feature in the 8830 for use with other GPS Apps like TelNav or Garmin? I dont want to use verizon's gps feature.

I don't want to hear that the phone does not have a true GPS feature it does. Look at the other CDMA 8830's offered by other carriers like sprint they have the same phone and the GPS is turned on. Some how vz is blocking the GPS for other vendors but not for thier own GPS app. NICE what happend to choice???

I've read a couple of threads saying it's the network. But those threads were six months old. Any update on this has VZ opened this up yet?

if you subscribe to VZ Navigator, yes, and only with that.

Sorry if you don't want to hear that, but I can't change the truth.

Yes, it is. Like a child that keeps asking "why why why why".
No offense to you qw3rty, but it has been repeated over and over and over. There is a simple solution, subscribe to VZNavigator, and other GPS apps will work as well.

And it will work for you.

Good luck.

It will sound even MORE familiar once someone chimes in with thoughts of a class action lawsuit. Any takers???

Well like I stated earlier I was looking if there were any updates. The threads I read were several months old if not older and a LOT can change in that time frame.

I have a theory not sure if it will work probablly not. I think that the GPS is locked on the hand held software side of the house. Has anyone tried loading the Sprint version of the OS on the VZ 8830. I think there is a vendor.xml trick and there both CDMA phones. VZ offers diffrent features than sprint and sprint has the GPS unlocked. Has anyone tried this? Any sucess.

I'll do it. We should sue someone over this!!! This just isn't right!! They have no right to do this!!!

Sorry couldn't resist. I have the 8830 and I am mad that the GPS doesn't work without vznav, but oh well. I bought a gps puck and I don't have to spend the extra money. Not starting another debate.

Um... you chose Verizon. A carrier infamous for crippling devices and then charging customers to use features. If you want to exercise choice, I'd recommend finding another carrier...

Ha! Enjoy your $5 "settlement" coupon for Verizon service while the lawyers keep getting fatter off of class action suits.
