I want to buy an unblocked 8800 in the states and bring it back to belgium where I live and want to find out if it will work with no problems or is it necessary to buy one only in belgium?

if the device is unlocked you should be able to use it in belgium.

As long as it is unlocked, it shoudl work OK. AFAIK, you will have EDGE connectivity, but not 3G.

The issue is, will the carrier you use support the 8800? If not, then you will get no technical support whatsoever in setting it up to work on your network. Also, do they offer a BB dataplan?

It should work. If your carrier doesn't offer any BB data plan then I guess you can only phone/SMS and PIM on that thing.

I've used a Cingular 8800 purchased in the US and then unlocked on both Proximus and BASE. No problems. Used EDGE in both cases.

Now I use an 8820, purchased in the US, on BASE. Again, no problem.

welcome to the forums. your other post on this topic has been closed, please do not post multiple threads on the same topic. thank you. the device will work on your carriers with no issues once it has been unlocked. the only problem you may find is the lack of carrier support for unlocked devices. i am not sure about overseas, but i know in the states, the GSM carriers are fairly resistant to helping if you are using an unlocked device. but of course that is why the forums are here

I used an unlocked Cingular 8800 on Proximus in Belgium (same net the OP is asking about) and I did get support from the network. Had a few issues with service books and they helped sort it out.

In Belgium, they don't lock phones (in fact, they may not be allowed to, but not sure - this may be why the iphone is not available here) and don't seem to care where the phone came from. Proximus used to sell the 8800 and do support it. Now they sell the 8800 and Curve and will support these as well.

Of course, I am not talking about warranty in this case. No warranty will be available from Proximus if something does go wrong with the device.
