Hello.

I currently have three BES servers and I'm trying to figure out licensing.

The first one is a Groupwise BES with a majority of my users (45 currently). We're slowly migrating from Groupwise to Exchange.

The second is an Exchange SBE BES that is currently dead since we migrated the 10 users that were using it to a different Exchange environment.

The third is an evaluation Exchange BES with the aforementioned migrated users currently setup on it.

My questions are:

1. Can I shut down the Exchange SBE BES and use the licensing for the new Evaluation Exchange BES?

2. Can I (someday) move the licenses from the Groupwise BES to an Exchange BES?

3. Whichever path I end up taking, would I be able to license the evaluation BES without having to redo enterprise activation on the BB's that are already set up on it?

Yes.

Licenses are not platform specific. You can use a GW license on a Exch BES and a Domino license on a GW BES. It doesn't matter.

3. Whichever path I end up taking, would I be able to license the evaluation BES without having to redo enterprise activation on the BB's that are already set up on it?

The users won't be affected.

One question:

If this is truly an Evaluation BES it will eventually expire, why go through the trouble of having to reinstall the BES again? Evaluation BES comes with evaluation licenses as well. Using an Evaluation BES in a production environment is more work if you ask me, if you have the licenses and the software available. You can use the same license on 3 different BES if you like. The licenses are not checked against any RIM database or anything.

If this BES is not an actual Evaluation copy then forget what I just said

The evaluation BES is in production because we didn't know any better when we set it up and for a while there was a push to move to :gasp: Windows Smartphones, so the Exchange-based Blackberries were supposed to be swapped with Windows Smartphones within the 90 day trial.

Since I just inherited the BES Admin role, I've decided to not count on all that happening within the next 70 days, so I want to make sure there's a stable and licensed platform that we can live on long-term if the Win phones don't happen.
