Default Been testing the Pearl 8120 with UMA on T-mobile for 4 months - GREAT PHONE!

Please Login to Remove!

I have been secretly testing the TMO Pearl 8120 with UMA on T-mobile for the past 4 months and can say that it is an awesome phone and that it works GREAT on UMA.

The improvements over the 8100 are MANY. WiFi works great and for the first time in years I now have in house coverage thanks to UMA.

Also, the other major advancements of the 8120 make it an awesome phone, like:

- 2MP camera
- Video recording - pretty good quality
- External Micro SD card slot
- Real bluetooth stereo support with standard stereo headset jack
- Improved voice notes

OS 4.3 also has too many improvements to mention

ok, go to Jim's Mobile Voice Blog

I HAVE NOT updated this ALL UMA voice blog in a while because I have REAL job and I am busy with priorities.

So, just listen to the voice posts, they were all done over UMA

I have the Curve and T-Mo and even with the Linksys router THEY recommend, it WILL NOT work consistently. Either bad call quality, voice not working, and WHENEVER I walk 20-30 feet away it hangs up on me.

I have the Curve and TMo and a Linksys router and it works quite well. Call quality depends a lot on your bandwidth--I have a 10MB download and 1Mb upload so there's plenty to share. Mine switches seamlessly to EDGE all the time when I leave my wifi area.

I finally don't care except about reception (which the router doesn't really reach far enough for). I went on the unlimited plan instead of trying to use Wi-Fi to save minutes.

I have heard great and bad things about the Wi-Fi (one thing is I spent a lot of time on it, and I don't feel like spending much more), and I think it's just a flip of the coin. I'm also in a apt. building (but here in LA, it's always pretty bad) and that may cause some problems, I don't know...
