Not sure why, but for some people who I have set up with custom ringtones, it'll play just a default tone. Wondering why the custom one wont play, even when I try to reset it and change it??

Let me know if anyone else has had this problem and how it could be fixed!

Are the ones that are not working in your five. If so, make sure that you have the tones in your fives matching the ones in the address book. My five settings overide the address book settings.

Actually I never knew that the Fave 5 had their own settings.... now that I look at it, I just realized that your right and thats whats happening.

Changed the settings, still not using the correct custom ring tones....

Upgrade to the latest OS. This was a known issue in the shipping version installed on the phone.

I'm having the same problem now. For the past year the ringtones were working prefectally with what I assigned to them. Recently I changed them, and now it plays the default not what I've reset it to. I reset my phone, added the most current OS (which I had prior to the reset) and and re-added everything, but it still plays the default sounds. Any ideas???

is it possible you have the phone number in more than one place? ie for the Company, and also for the person?

Good question, actually as far as I can tell, now the ringtones for phone assigned numbers work. However the assigned ringtones for SMS and email, still play default.

Well I figured out the problem and decided to post it in case anyone has trouble with this and is as incompetant as me. Around the same time I switched my ringtones, I started using that little holster sleeve thingy. Apparently there are ringtones for when the phone is in the holster and when it is not. Who would've known...

As far as I am aware, that assigned ringtone (for specific callers) only works for calls, not sms/email. You cannot change, I guess you can call them data tones, for specific callers from what I've seen.
It's a bummer, I know. I loved that feature on my older motos, and LGs, but haven't seen it on the bb yet =(
