Default 8830 with No signal...could antenna be disconnected?

Please Login to Remove!

Has any one ever seen this?

My friend gave me a Blackberry 8830 that he got used from a friend of his with an Error 507. The unit was missing a few screws, and looked as if it had been taken apart.

I wiped it, reloaded the OS, removed the IT policy, and everything booted up, and the thing runs great! One problem...

I can't connect to my carrier. The signal strength meter shows a "x" as if there is no signal. It is a Bell 8830, and my personal Bell 8703 next to it has full strength, so I know that there is an available signal.

Could it possibly a unplugged antenna? Another hardware issue? Any suggestions?

Thanks!

If a CDMA device will show signal strength without being provisioned then it's most likely defective. Best way to find out is to disassemble it and look. Every time I've had a device acting like that it's never been the antenna. YMMV

It shows:

Data Services: On
Mobile Network: * None *
Network Selection Mode: Automatic
Network Mode: 1XEV

I think I've tried every possible combination, and nothing has worked...

Another oddity...

The power button works to power down the phone, but not to power up. In order to turn the phone on, I have to pull the battery...

I guess this is a sign that there are really hardware issues...crap.
