Default Wiping a handheld not on the BES anymore

Please Login to Remove!

We just recently implemented a password policy on our BES forcing handhelds to lock after a given period of time.

I just had my first user get a new phone after the policy was in place. I walked him through setting up his new phone and activated it on the BES. He shipped me his old phone...

Usually I wipe the old phones with JL_Cmder before setting them up for someone else or donating them to charity. But this phone now has that user's password on it. How can I wipe this handheld without knowing his password? If I reset it on the BES it won't get pushed down to this phone because it's no longer the user's phone right? I thought about just putting in the wrong password 10 times, but I was afraid it would somehow lock him out of his current phone. Is that the case or is that the best way to do it?

Thanks for the help!

Enter a wrong password in 10 times and it will wipe.

It will not affect his current device at all.

Ok, so I have it wiped but now it's asking me to set a new password. If I'm going to donate the unit to charity I need to remove the password altogether. Do I need to follow the instructions on this thread for removing the IT policy?

You can also just add a dummy user to the bes with the default policy, activate the BB against that account, go into options - security, turn off the password. Then wipe the device again.

Just remove the IT Policy as indicated in the thread you mentioned. Very quick and it works fine.
