Hello everyone,

I just got my 8320 about 3 days ago and so far it's great. So far it is pretty barebones because of my lack of knowledge. I don't even have an internet plan, no GPS, and until I have a better understanding of what I thought I knew,my plan will stay that way(not too long I hope).

My question is about email
When we were getting our plan together thay asked me if I wanted internet access and for now I said no wifi access will do and knew I would not be able to receive email sent to my outlook account but I eventually will. What I will want to do is when I get an email message sent to outlook, I want it to go to my Blackberry as well or either. I also learned about BB enterprise server but don't think I need this????? After I get it turned on do you set it up like you do on a pc (POP Email server,SMTP server?). T-Mobile is acting like I have to go through them to do this. Also is there any 3rd party app that resembles the Outlook GUI in look and feel.

Now I have been getting email forwarded to me via SMS and MMS from my Outlook but I'm guessing this is just a version of text forwarding. I'm usually pretty savvy with things like these but this has me totally lost.

Am I off base or missing something

Thanks

Ghost

You'll need a BB data plan which for non-corporate users is Blackberry Internet Service (BIS). You'll got to a website something like sprint.blackberry.com to set up your e-mail accounts. Its really pretty easy.

I've had my BB for about a week now (not the Curve I wanted), got the Pearl and I'm loving it. The only thing I miss is the full keyboard.

Welcome to the forums and Congrats on your new BB.

The BlackBerry Unlimited Add-On for T-Mobile is by far the most affordable at $19.99/mo and for us....unlimited means, unlimited!!! to take full advantage of your BlackBerry, you'll need this, especially if you want instant e-mail.

If you're using this BlackBerry for personal and non-business.corporate use, you won't need Enterprise.

I set up my email accounts straight from the phone. Very easy to do. But I did get the $20 Blackberry plan. It's so convenient, I'd highly recommend it. Push email is awesome.

You can always just add the BB plan for a month and see if you like it. You might even be able to get the customer care to get it for you for free.

BTW, you don't have GPS on the 8320.

Welcome to BBF Ghostnotes!

Just go get the BIS add-on from T-Mobile and your BlackBerry will be the most powerful messaging device out there!

Probably not. Read the info on it and decide for yourself if the costs (pricier data plan and BES hosting) are worth the benefits for you.

Nope. You use your carrier's BIS site. So you basically do go "through your carrier". There's no POP client on the BB. All BB email is push email.

Nope. How exactly would the Outlook GUI be implemented on a small screen in a useful fashion? A lot of the very limited screen space would be wasted.

If you just want email you can add the 9.99 unlimited email plan! I have the 8320 and just the email plan and it works just great! If I need to get on the internet the wifi is great

Buying a BB without a data plan is likegoing to a gunfight with a knife.
I bought a Blackberry for the email.
It's what this unit is made for in my humble opinion.
