Default Update over 1000 BES users Owner information on devices

Please Login to Remove!

Hi everyone, is there an easy way to set a generic (global) value for the IT Owners information so that all users have a contact number (call center) when their devices locked?

Can this be done through IT policy? Is there anyway to clear out the owner name and just have the generic text?

Yes, you can set the owner information on the BES via the IT Policy. Keep in mind if you do that, you will override any owner information they had in there.

EDIT: It's under the 'Common Policy Group' in the IT Policy.

I'm an individual user. Anyway to change the IT policy generic user information?

If I can't do it, is it possible to have an admin single my BB out individually to remove the owner information or must all BBs have the same info?

Wirelessly posted (My blond BlackBerry)

If the Owner info is set via the IT policy, you can't change it.

Here's a better question...
Can you put in a generic command in the IT Policy > Common Policy Group that will read the mail file of the person and populate the field with their name?

Wonder if the $n from activation messages will work in the user name field?

Yeah, I thought about that too. But I'm not gonna try it. I'd have for any of my folks who already entered their name to have it changed to $n.

Anybody got a Test BES they can try this on?

I don't think that would work - it appears that it is treated as a generic text input, and brings everything in verbatim.

Yep, just tested it, I have $n as my owner name.

If you wanted to do personal information, I think you would want to use the resource kit tool and a batch file.

Thx $n.. I mean qc_metal.
BRK and batch sounds like too much work. I'll just type up a quick "how-to" and send it to all users on my BES so they can enter their name on the device.

Empower the users! *OMG .. what am I saying?!?!*
