I want to download google maps and autolock. I will also use google maps occasionally and check my email very rarely(away from pc for more than a day(rarely)). So how much data Roughly would i use in a month. I would use maps maybe once or twice a month tops.

No matter what your plan is, I would never recommend anything less than an unlimited package if you can get one. Some may disagree, that's just my personal opinion.

I agree with that, with the blackberry, you'll probably always want more out of it than you expect and besides, there's ways around SMS if you get the data plan. I think it's worth the money for unlimited, but ultimately you'll be the one to buy it so you can decide what you want.

Well thats what I am thinking too and my carrier offers one but last i checked it was real pricey. I wont use it that much anyways soo id rather avoid a huge bill every month.

I surf the web at least a couple hours a day on a bb plus email and text msgs, and I use up about 100-130 MB/month. That also includes using whatever network dependent 3rd party apps like Google Maps and the like. Look for a free app called Mini Monitor and install it to your BB. It'll give you a ballpark figure of your data usage. Although it only works on GSM BB's.

Yeap. Unlimited is the way to go I have Unlimited SMS and Data for only 10$ from At&t. I used up only 800 MB surfing the web on my BB. Gee i wonder how much that is worth if i didint have a data plan :S

Grr Go see cellular one today and they say that i can add unlimited data for 10 so i say go for it. Oh wait thats on a blackberry? Those use more data so they are 30. I says forget it and walk out the door. I have been debating a switch to ATT anyways. So will things like google maps work on ATT? And how much is a data plan for a blackberry?

Most carriers I think have different data plans for "regular" phones and BBs. I know T-Mobile does, they have a $5.99 (or close to that) data plan for most phones, but the BB data plan is $20.

As far as I know, T-Mobile has the cheapest BB data plan available at $20/month.

I wouldn't say that. If that were the case, there would be a whole bunch of us "gettin the shaft".

That's just the market price for all the services included in the BB data plan. For me, it's well worth it.

If you think you're "getting the shaft" for a $30/month BB data plan, then maybe the BB wasn't the best choice in a phone for you. If you use the BB as it was intended, then $30/month is nothing. Just my .02

The data for the Blackberry has to go through the carrier (Cellular One) as well as RIM's (Research In Motion makes the Blackberry) data center in order to work. That's why it costs more. We all pay $20-$40 per month for Blackberry data services. If you think that's high, go look at Rogers in Canada...those folks have been paying WAY more than that for years. Its a good deal here...any Canadian will tell you that.

Agreed. T-Mobile does have the cheapest plan but if other BB plans are too expensive for you, there's always Sprint's Samsung Instinct, Verizon's LG env2, T-Mobile's Sidekick LX, AT&T's Samsung Blackjack... lots of alternatives, though I don't know what data would be for each (aside from the SK based on personal experience). Granted, everyone here will tell you to go with the BB and an unlimited data plan. We're just that biased

I had the data plan for my V on Verizon. At first I thought it was cool, that is until I determined that it was S L O W. So I wound up not using it at all.

Then I got my BB Pearl. Big difference! I'm always using the BB to read mail and visit forums and web sites.

Well worth the $30.00 extra.

Darn I'm torn. I really dont know that I would use it that much and thats alot extra. I dont need it for work or school. Would i have to pay extra to be able to use it as a modem for my laptop? I would however like to be able to use google maps on trip next month tho. Wish they would sell like 10mb for 15 bucks a month

Interesting to note that Rogers just changed its data plans. $30 for 300MB. I was paying $25 for 4MB only a week ago. We need to thank the iPhone, they certainly could not market it on their old data plans.
