Default The Holster

Please Login to Remove!

Hey all, i have a pearl

so, what's the deal with the holster (im assuming that leather sleeve that came with the phone). if it does what i think it does, it's the most inventive thing, yet so simple. i'll lock my key pad, slide it in, and then when i want to check the time or something, when i pull it out the screen automatically lights up. i saw in another post someone talked about how the holster extends battery life? and how is has some sort of magnet?

how does the screen turn on when it is pulled out of the holster? (just wondering how it works). and...noob question i know, what way should the phone face to put it in? i looks like there is a small strip of fabric that "bridges" a gap between the rest of the sleeve, it is raised up a bit, so i guess the trackball faces that side and rests underneath that part?

and i also saw on the profile settings there is also settings you can change when it is in the holster or whatever...and i was wondering how does the phone know, lol.

thanks!

There's a magnetic strip in the holster that makes all of this possible, I for one love it. Somehow the magnet in it let's the phone know it's in the holster and locks the keys and activates whatever setting it may have for when it's in the holster.

does it improve battery life? cause i have my phone's backlight or whatever turn off after 10 seconds...does that mean it goes into standby mode? does it go into the same mode when in the holster? or is it a different kind of hibernation?

it does improve battery life, not sure how drastic (sp?) the improvement is, but its not enough to have me use it.

i use the hard, clear clip-on shell case that i bought from t-mobile for $20. it might get a little less battery life, but im sure my case protects the phone more than the case it comes with.

hope this helped,

The magnet-enabled holster or case or sleeve improves battery life in that it puts the BB to sleep in the holster.

I must have bought mine at the wrong time because I didn't get a holster with mine. I did buy a couple though, one leather and one clear plastic.
As far as battery life goes, it does help, just not drastically.

The holster has the magnet on the back.

If you are not aware, Blackberry makes an actual belt clip holster with the magnet....got one last week from a Verizon store for $23. You can set the phone to recognize the holster and automatically vibrate in the holster and ring aloud out of the holster etc.

By the way, you don't need to manually lock your keys, the magnet locks the phone automatically.

I recently purchased an 8330 (my first BB) and was absolutely stunned the first time I noticed the screen blank when i put it in the holster.

It's amazing how something so simple makes you think "Why doesn't every phone do that?" the first time you see it.

Yep, just got mine last night and it works like a charm. The only concern I have is will the phone ever fall out since the only thing over the top is a magnet? I know it fits in there all snug, but what do you think the odds are of it falling out?

In several years, I have never had a BB launch from the leather case that has the strap over the top, closed by the magnet. And I have worn it like this past weekend in some very bumpy and jarring activities.

mine kept messing up my screen on my 8100 so i gave up, put a rubber holder around it, and a screen guard on it.

Love this setup WAY more.

lol the funny thing is for like the first week or so i couldnt figure out what was causing my phone to go into sleep mode inside the holster.. it really had me puzzled, then when i figured it out i felt stupid for not thinking about it sooner lol. kinda like its so simple its complicated.

and if you dont like the holster that came with the phone, you can buy a really nice leather one for about $30 from bestbuy. It's manufactured by blackberry too, but its way better than the one that comes with the phone.
