Default BES 4.1.2 to 4.1.5 upgrade issues

Please Login to Remove!

First off, still relitively new to the BES scene. Kind of learning as I go so please forgive any newbish questions / responses I'm sure to dish out

I attempted to do an in place upgrade of our BES server from 4.1 SP2 to 4.1 SP5 over the weekend. Everything seemed to go 100% smooth. No error messages or anything.

When I finished the install it showesd as being complete and when I checked it was indeed running 4.1.5 now.

However, I could never get it to actually start relaying messages again. No matter what I tried. I let it sit for hours as I know it can sometimes take time, but it just never started working again.

The only actual error I could see in the event log was related to an MDS package we have:

Event Type: Error
Event Source: BlackBerry MDS Connection Service
Event Category: None
Event ID: 15000
Date: 6/28/2008
Time: 11:56:36 PM
User: N/A
Computer: METAMESSAGE01
Description:
<2008-06-28 23:56:36.392 CDT>:[35]:<MDS-CS_METAMESSAGE01_MDS-CS_1>:<ERROR>:<LAYER = SCM, EVENT = PushServiceFactory failed to create service: net.rim.shared.management.f: PushServiceFactory failed to create service: java.lang.NullPointerException>

Now, I know with such little information, I'm not going to get much help on the matter, what I'm REALLY looking for here, is to get pointed in the right direction to start looking for the problem? What logs should I be checking, etc.

Any and all help would be GREATFULLY appreciated!

What account did you use for the install of SP5? If you used another account then BESAdmin then search BlackBerry Technical Solution Center for switch administrative account. Change everything back to run as that account.

If you did the install as BESAdmin then check all services are running. Also, check Task Manager and ensure that blackberryagent.exe is running. If it is not running, even after a restart, you need to unistall and reinstall the BES.

Look in the Application loog for any events from te Dispatcher, Controller and Messaging Agent. Try restarting the services and cehck the event log if you have to. Post any errors here and search RIM's BTSC as well.
