But another question...has anyone noticed that Help>About in the version downloaded from the 1.60 link says 1.5?

I thought I needed to upgrade after checking Help>About in BBAlerts on my BB and seeing it said 1.50. I went to the 1.60 download link and started to install it, and got a prompt asking if I wanted to replace version 1.60 with version 1.60.

Can those of you w/1.60 installed check Help>About and confirm you're also seeing 1.50 on that screen?
Mine does as well...

Still trying to figure out why BBAlerts won't altert me to SMS messages on my new 8310 Pearl. I've had some communication with BByMel, but so far no solutions. Any ideas would be welcomed! It doesn't work for any of the various versions of the program.....

Weird...I'm not getting any difference on my LED alerts now...everyting is Red as far as I can tell, adn I've set things up where only calls are supposed to be Red.

Any suggested troubleshooting?

<EDIT> Nevermind...operator error.

I LOVE this little program. Don't know why RIM hasn't built this (along w/the ability to auto-switch profiles on a schedule) into the OS. I'd gladly trade the video camera for those...

Just in case someone else didn't notice...I wanted to have separate alerts for Voicemail, Email, SMS, etc., and didn't really understand the Audio Type setting in Options for Separate Profiles. Today I figured it out...changed to Seprate Profiles and then went back to the Profile editor and voila - a separate BB Alerts profile for each event!

Is there a help document online anywhere that covers all of the functionality in BB Alerts...clearly I'm likely missing other "obvious" things as well.

Default BBerryAlerts 1.49 + 8703e = Me No Likey

Verizon 8703e, OS 4.2 Downloaded OTA v1.49 of BberryAlerts and was never able to get beyond the startup screen without the device locking up. Received the common error upon seen wit everyone upon reboot, but even with several batt pulls cannot get bberryalerts to run or not lock up the device when selected.

Off it goes. Wish I could try out what appears to be the must-have for any bb user - got tired of the hassle and punted instead. Well hell.

The guide is built in to the program. That, plus this thread should cover all questions.

Happy Holidays!

Sorry.... Not enough Guide for me.

How does "Vibrate on alert" on the Options screen in BB Alerts interface w/Profile settings for alerts set in Profiles? If I'm in a Quiet profile, will the vibrate setting override that and vibrate anyway?

Or if I've set the profile to tone only, would it then still vibrate?

VERY USEFUL piece of software. It's working perfectly on my BB, but I regret that I can't purchase it without any credit card. Why doesn't handango accept paypal from accounts outside of the USA?!
I assume I have to search for an alternative software.

Default Do repeating Alerts work for Calendar alarms too?

Logan,
Do repeating Alerts work for Calendar appointment alarms too?
Thanks.

Missed Calls
SMS Messages
Voicemail (may not always work perfectly since there is no access to the voicemail flag)
Emails
PIN Messages

The alert can be set to repeat every 1, 3 or 9 minutes. There are a lot of options so it is highly customizable... mostly you will want to check out missed calls, sms and voice mail alerts.
You can set it up to use a profile so can choose any of your existing ring tones.

Version is compatible with the Pearl but there is an issue with the Pearl dialog for Missed Call view/close (thanks to PaulQ from this board for lots of testing). Still working on a Pearly Only version with Paul but license keys will be transferrable between the two.

Product Link

OTA Link (Demo Only, not available late night)

Let me know any problems/suggestions. Working on future version to include separate notification for each alert type. Free future upgrades provided (keep license key).

I'll start by admitting that I haven't read this entire thread for posts with the following issue.

With BB Alerts off, my LED flashes for unread emails until I actually open Messages. With BB Alerts on, my LED stops flashing as soon as I do anything - press a button, unlock my keyboard, etc.

I use my BB for more than just messages, and I need to be reminded that I still have an unread message - especially if I'm making a call and need to check messages after.

Anyone else seeing this? Is this the intended operation of the program?

Absolutely, i and other have posted about the same issue. This is the single issue that has prevented me from buying this application. If the developer can fix this, i would gladly buy it.

Not entirely true, with BB Alerts off, your message indicator will go off after roughly 15 or 20 minutes versus "until you actually open messages." The point of having BB alerts (for me of course) was the lack of this function. I wanted a program (i.e. BB Alerts) to actually blink/bug me until I actually open that message or retrieve the call which this does great..

This is what i am looking for, but is not how BBalert worked for me. It would blink /alert me until i touched anything, any key or the scroll wheel even when the keys were locked. So in effect i rarely ever saw the blinking light.

[This is not directed at jalm1, it's only quoted for context]

While continuous alerts until certain action is taken might be desired by some; as opposed to alerts stopping as soon as you touch anything -- well, that's what the visual indicator icons are for.

Without BB Alerts, you have, as mentioned above, 15 or 20 minutes of vibrate and red led, and then all you have is your indicator icons.

With BB Alerts, you have, continuous vibrate and different coloured led until you touch something, then you still have your indicator icons.

If you've touched the phone (clicked a key, rolled the ball, unholstered it) so that the led turned itself off, the way I see it, BB Alert's job is done. Now it's up to YOU to know what to do. The led told you if it was a missed call, txt msg and email, but let's say you unholstered the phone, it came out of standby and you didn't see the led at all... well, you are now holding the phone in your hand, you can see the mail envelopes and telephone indicators on your home screen, right?

Now where BB Alerts REALLY shines, IMO, is let's say you have your phone on Silent profile at night, you get a email at 1 AM while you are asleep, you wake up at 4 AM, glance over at the nightstand and see flashing yellow. Yellow... woot, email! So I pick up the phone, roll the trackball and see the subject of the email. Oh, it's from Johnny, it can wait till 6 AM when it's time to wake up. Zzzzzzzz. No, I don't want it to stay blinking yellow, unless I get a NEW email. What's to remind me that I haven't read Johnny's email when I wake up? Well... the envelope with the red asterisk, the "(1)", and the small envelope in the home screen header with the "1" beside it?

PS -- my wording is aimed at no one. I'm sort of playing advocate here to illustrate my point, is all.

I absolutely understand where your coming from, and i dont take it personally at all. Everybody has their own way they want to manage their devices. In large part i agree with you, where i have a problem is when the device is locked and you knock it, carry it in your pocket (as i do), etc. and it turns off the led. i dont want to be always unlocking the screen or activating the screen to see the indicator icons. if i am in a meeting or out, or in any of the many places that it isnt appropriate to be lighting up the screen to see if the icons when the led is more discrete. personally i think it should be an option. That is how i would like to use the device. But everyone has their own preferences. I would just like to see this option added in a future version.

Just to add, you can also go into BB Alerts log which is color coded to see a history/log of activity....

I just installed 1.6 on my 7290 running 4.1.0.309

When I try and launch the application I get an error saying "Error starting BlackberryAlerts class net.rim.device.api.system.coveraceStatusListener not found.

Any thoughts? Was this new update not for older BB's?
