[This is not directed at jalm1, it's only quoted for context]
While continuous alerts until certain action is taken might be desired by some; as opposed to alerts stopping as soon as you touch anything -- well, that's what the visual indicator icons are for.
Without BB Alerts, you have, as mentioned above, 15 or 20 minutes of vibrate and red led, and then all you have is your indicator icons.
With BB Alerts, you have, continuous vibrate and different coloured led until you touch something, then you still have your indicator icons.
If you've touched the phone (clicked a key, rolled the ball, unholstered it) so that the led turned itself off, the way I see it, BB Alert's job is done. Now it's up to YOU to know what to do. The led told you if it was a missed call, txt msg and email, but let's say you unholstered the phone, it came out of standby and you didn't see the led at all... well, you are now holding the phone in your hand, you can see the mail envelopes and telephone indicators on your home screen, right?
Now where BB Alerts REALLY shines, IMO, is let's say you have your phone on Silent profile at night, you get a email at 1 AM while you are asleep, you wake up at 4 AM, glance over at the nightstand and see flashing yellow. Yellow... woot, email! So I pick up the phone, roll the trackball and see the subject of the email. Oh, it's from Johnny, it can wait till 6 AM when it's time to wake up. Zzzzzzzz. No, I don't want it to stay blinking yellow, unless I get a NEW email. What's to remind me that I haven't read Johnny's email when I wake up? Well... the envelope with the red asterisk, the "(1)", and the small envelope in the home screen header with the "1" beside it?
PS -- my wording is aimed at no one. I'm sort of playing advocate here to illustrate my point, is all.
