I setup a Blackberry to a Microsoft Exchange Server via the Outlook Web Access settings.

Customer has 113,000 emails in his inbox and the Blackberry is trying to sync all items. Every day it syncs up a batch at a time.

Is there a way to limit how many days/weeks to sync up or will it try to sync up 113,000 emails.

I have asked the customer to clean up his inbox or move old emails to subfolder but want to know if there is a setting I am missing.

That's ridiculous. Who can possibly look at all those emails. The bigger issue is the limit on the .PST file. Microsoft suggests a limit of 600 megs now. It used to be much higher.

Sync directly to the PC with the email open should be faster but a lot depends on the PC, Outlook and other network factors.

There is a limit but it's based on the size of the emails and available space after any apps are installed.
There is no way to tell at those numbers.

When I saw that, I was speechless. His PST file was 11GB. He has been cleaning up and its now down to 8GB but knows he needs to clean up some more. I recommended he move the majority of the emails to a subfolder and only leave the past month in his inbox, at least for now.

His manager has a 23GB PST file but only has 800 items in the inbox so her Blackberry is syncing fine.

These are the largest PST's I have seen and I have been in the IT business for 12 years.

So the answer to my main question is, it depends on the space available on the Blackberry. The more space available, the more items will download. Am I correct?

How their Outlook hasn't crashed is amazing. I've seen Outlook crash from 2GB PST files.

I agree with dc/dc. 2GB used to be the outer limit recommended for Outlook. Any larger would usually become flaky and ultimately would become corrupt and unusable.

I wasn't aware they now recommend 600MB. I have been archiving for some time and all archive PST files are kept to under 2GB and seem to be working and are accessible when I need.

I have a user with over 50 gig of PST files and think he has to retain them all.

its fun to watch him do nothing for hours when outlook crashes and checks all the files for corruption

Yes I also have multi gigs of PST file but not one file. Again , Microsoft strongly suggests a limit of around 600 to 1 Gig megs depending on the version of Outlook. Yes they dont state this on their support site but if you read some of the blogs you will see a trend and how people fix the problem. I have Outlook 10 and 7 and had trouble with 2007 .pst files over 1 Gig. Another issue is how the files are configured. Unicode or ANSI. One of my computers is old and I would think the 600meg issue is due to processor capability and setting the option to cache email on the PC vs. leaving them on the server. A lot of different things cause problems . Network speed for download, PC capability, Outlook version, cache vs. server. Anyway unless Microsoft comes clean about problems just about anything can happen.
