I just switched service from a 8530 to a 9530, the storm does not say 3G or have the BB symbol near the service bar. It has 1XEV! Does it matter???

Functionally they are the same. 1XEV is 3G.

The difference is cosmetic.

If you want it display 3G, you can probably find a theme that will display it that way for you.
