Question What is SprintSpeed?

Please Login to Remove!

I just upgraded to the 8830 and I'm thinking about returning it and getting the Pearl. On sprint.com they state that the Pearl is the fastest phone Sprint offers and it's rated for SprintSpeed.

Does this mean data speeds are faster on the Pearl? I'm a little confused about what this is. I've read all the 8830 vs pearl threads and I didn't read anything about this.

Also, are there any other differences between the two models besides the obvious (the Pearl having a camera, smaller screen & keyboard, and Sprint TV)?

Sprint speed I believe is a marketing strategy more than any real technology

Yup, it's a marketing campaign. Both Sprint and Verizon have EV-DO, the fastest wireless network outside of 3G from AT&T. EV-DO has been available for years, while 3G is not even available outside of the larger metro areas, and there are no Blackberrys that do 3G yet. EV-DO is the speed king for Blackberrys right now.

Sprint Speed = Advertising

Do not believe it without doing your homework.

Yep... EVDO is solid and the way to go for a BB if you can, IMO.... but that Sprint Speed thing is a bunch of salesman junk.

the guy on t.v. that talks about sprint speed, and there are more of you to get work done, drives me nuts, that commercial is CONSTANTLY played on t.v., and what i don't get is, is that i thought people bought the palm units for the keyboard AND touch screen, then they release a non touch screen unit? makes no sense to me

The pearl would be faster. EVDO is the fastest you can go with a berry right now. "Sprintspeed" is very fast for data. The only downside is the price.

That's on you

Not a bad deal at all for $30 ... Us Verizon Folks get something similar minus the unlimited Text Messaging... Which would be a huge bonus.

T-Mobile gets $20/month for unlimited data on BIS when you already have a minutes plan. No text messages are included. That's another add-on.

It used to be $39.95! and didnt include unlimited text or SprintNav use. Those were like $25 more a month before.

Now $30 covers it all. If you use all the things you get thats like saving $35 a month over previous costs! A deal? or were they just charging too much before? Depends on how you see it!

This is just a marketing ploy. However, I do adore my 8830 on EVDO. Big step up from my 7100i on Nextel's forever slow internet. Still miss my Diret Connect though.
