Default 8130 pearl trackball vs 8100 trackball

Please Login to Remove!

I'm using a pearl 8130 with bell mobility and have noticed my trackball is almost clicky...its not the sound option you can turn on or off but I can feel it in my thumb. I tested this out on a few pearl 8130s and have noticed the same...the 8100 with Rogers though has a very smooth scroll on the trackball even with the trackball settings the same....any comments?

I have seen the same on various models released after the 8100. I have a Cingular branded (now AT&T) 8100 and I have tested several models since getting mine as we look at accepting them into the company standards. Practically none of the devices feel like my Cingular pearl. They are not as smooth, they feel loose in the feral/socket and make more noise when used. Not certain if the earlier devices were made by a different vendor or what but I can see a dramatic difference.
Just another reason to love my pearl!

I have a brand new 8100 and it is very "clicky" as it rolls, much much more so then my friend's 8800.

The trackball has definitly been redesigned for the newer BlackBerrys to provide improved tactile response.

I feel the difference too, my 8130 is noisy and loose feeling. My fiance's 8800 is smoooooooth and my friends 8100 is smooooooth. I like the smooth ones much better I feel like i have to use more force with mine. I'm sure i'll get used to it. Only 4 days in !!

Where can i get new trackballs ?? I found factory batteries for $10 on ebay from canada...i'm from canada too. CHEAP.

yeah, mine makes a noise similar to running your fingernail across one of those hologram 3D stickers that move as you look at it from different angles. As long as it keeps working, I'll be happy. It doesn't bother me at all.

I've seen this too with my new 8130. The trackball runs kind of rough with a little bit of mechanical snag that results in an uneven 'clicky' sound. I noticed that the 8830 runs really smooth with no noise. Might check out the new red Pearls to see if they've got the same issue.

I went into the dealer today and showed them. We showed them my fiances 8830 as well, one in each hand and they agree that the 8130 feels rough and clicky. They grabbed a new 8130 and it was exactly the same. So they gave me the number of the third party tech guy who fixes their phones. I'll see if i can snag a trackball assembly off of an 88xx or 8100. I've swapped peoples 8100 trackballs into mine and they feel great.

I have found the replacement units for $12 and no one with the 8100s who buys the replacement ones say they feel any different. So if thats the case and the tech can't help me i'll take a $12 chance and order a replacement unit.

A little bit of a piss off but $12 isnt bad.

Anyone bought the Cellular Nation Network ones...or the ebay trackball for their 8100 ?? Does it feel the same as the original ??

I and my tattoo artist both have pearls ,Mine a 8130 and hers a 8100........not only does her track ball feel different, it's darker and rolls a little smoother (does not have the same traction) ......I just figured hers was older and dirtier and worn down more......possibly the difference is in the model?

yes mine was acting up so i got a new ball, much much smoother.

here is where I got it. 8120/8130 - Microsoft, Alcatel, 3G, Panasonic, HTC, BenQ-Siemens, SonyEricsson, BlackBerry,

install is easy, small screw driver pop out cover and old pearl ball falls out, put new one in, then line up cover tabs snap in.

yeah Cnn.cn gets RIM parts.

Your trackball will start out feeling very "Clicky" or rough. It will smooth over time and become less responsive as it begins to turn dark and dirty. I just replace mine every once in a while.
