Default Hi Guys, international T-Mobile Problem 8320. Please HELP!

Please Login to Remove!

Hi guys, i am new here, i live in switzerland and i have just purchased an unlocked BB 8320 from CTI-Miami.com

I am more or less happy with the phone so far... well to be honest no i'm not. I have a huge problem.

This is how it all started:

After purchasing, a quick 2 days later, i had my BB delivered by FedEx. As i opened the box i saw that firstly, it was the wrong colour, but f. that it didnt look too bad so i decided to keep it. Secondly it was branded with T-Mobile, which started to bug me out a little. I thought it was an unlocked handset; fully free of any possible problems. I popped my sim card in and luckily everything worked on Swisscom Mobile, i could receive and send text messages and make calls. great. The internet worked also on Swisscom so all in all i was happy. up until i wanted to get the phones main feature: the e-mail going.
Swisscom provides you with a special (i think you american guys must have this too) website where you can create an account in order to activate this whole email thingy. So i type in my PIN and my IMEI number, and then it says that this specific handset is still somehow linked or registered as a non swisscom mobile handset. therefore not compatible. so the people from swisscom (specialists at the store) told me to call T-Mobile USA in order to cancel my registration or whatever with them, so they could somehow register it to swisscom. Then i realise that when i ordered the phone from CTI-Miami.com i never opened a contract with T-Mobile that i could ever cancel. So basically here I am with a 500 Dollar blackberry that is the wrong colour, is branded with T-Mobile... and that can't use its key feature and the reason why I bought it.

Swisscom is supposed to be able to do this, and they can because many clients must come in with international blackberries from all over the place registered on other providers. I suppose that my only problem would be that i have no OTHER NUMBER NOR CONTRACT TO CANCEL

Help of any kind would be appreciated, whether its a new downloadable software or some hack of a kind.

Thanks in advance!

Best Regards,
Yannick Hofmann

Contact who you bought the device from. It appears used and linked to a T-Mobile account.

no i don't think it is used. It was brand new thats what i had asked too. They purchase htem from T-Mobile because apparently RIM do not sell BBs unbranded. so they get them from T-Mobile and unlock them after.

Anyone else.

Thanks so much!

Yes, do as Troy recommended. It is not a new device, if that is what you bought. Only carriers really sell new BlackBerrys and a few others. I know that company does not. If you call TMobile here in the US and explain that you bought your BB used, would they please release the PIN, they likely will, especially if you ask nicely--they don't have to do so.

The TMo branding on the BB has nothing to do with being unlocked. Determine if yours is unlocked by looking here:

Very likely they are selling remanufactured devices.

It can be many things, a simple error, used, stolen, a batch that should not have been sold, etc. Until the PIN is released from T-Mobile there is nothing you can do but attempt to contact T-Mobile, or contact the seller.

it is definitely unlocked, i checked the FAQ link, thankyou very much! Can i maybe change something there for it to work.

What exactly will I be able to do when I have called TMO successfully and release the PIN. What does that exactly mean ("realeasing the PIN")

I just found out i cant add anyone to the BB Messenger either.

Thankyou everybody, what great support from a great community

You can not use any BB Data servies, PIN, Email, Chat. There is nothing you can do but get the PIN released.

Yep, no PIN use until it is released. BBMessenger uses PINs to communicate from one BB to the other.

"Releasing" the PIN, means that TMo let's go of it, as right now it is connected to a TMo account somewhere. Normally they will do it, explain nicely that you bought it used... etc.

Basically, what they're saying is that someone has registered that handset to receive emails already. They may have popped in a sim card while unlocking it that had an account on it and activated the email by mistake. There could be a number of reasons. The device may still be new (or almost new) but someone had to open it, take it out of the box, turn it on, etc. in order to even unlock it. Who knows what else they did with it before selling it to you. Best bet is to call TMobile and explain the situation.
