Default Verizon and Nav4All or Alternatives

Please Login to Remove!

I have installed the latest Nav4All on my 8830 and it cannot find any GPS.

Is this a feature that is disabled in the Verizon phone? Do I have to pay the $10.00 per month to have this feature and if so, I probably should use Vz Navigator.

Any suggestions or help?

Thanks.

You must use VZNavigator for any GPS to be usable on your 8830.

From all I have read, UNFORTUNATELY you (me!) do need to pay Verizon $10.00 per month to enable the gps.

Kind of sucks.

I guess Vz Navigator is the one to use. At least it's supported by Vz.

Unless you think one of these 3rd peep applications is better?

What do you think?

TeleNav is the best (but it is another $10/month, I know don't throw things at me!).

Many people like Nav4All and AmazeGPS also, both free.

Default Nav4all and Verizon 8830

I got Nav4all to work on my vzn 8830, but I use at BT puck, specifically the
GLOBALSAT BT-359 BT359 BLUETOOTH GPS RECEIVER that I got on ebay.

I start it in BBMaps, then close it and start Nav4all. Seems to work okay, but BBMaps is simpler to start.

I tried Amaze, but besides slowwwwwww startup, it came up with a map of Vatican City...which is okay, I guess, but I am in Virginia, USA!

(And I don't pay vzn anything other than my data plan fee for BIS)

I'd second Telenav based on the ones that I've tried so far. I wouldn't blame VZW users for not wanting to pay $20/month for GPS though.

Default Nav4All is my vote (so far!)

I decided that as a matter of principle I would NOT be supporting Verizon's crippling of the 8830's built-in GPS. So I bought the Keychain GPS puck (one time cost) and can now use any 3rd party application I want. My favorite FREE navigation program (with spoken directions) is the Nav4All. I've found it very accurate and reliable AND I don't need to have any other GPS programs running in the background to use it. Just give the GPS puck 30 seconds or so initially to lock on to satellites before turning Nav4All on.
