Default 8820 WiFi confused

Please Login to Remove!

Well I have been playing with my bosses 8820 trying to get it configured just the way he likes it. Very nice device and I am going to get one myself. I have a question for the WiFi experts. I have turned off the mobile network and only have the WiFi on and can connect to my wireless network in the house. It is a bit squirrely but it connects. Now my question is why when I check my public IP address on this device do I get a RIM server IP instead of the IP for my home router which is where the device is getting it's DHCP address from???? I thought you could browse completely independent of the mobile network with these things???? When I turn off data on the mobile network my WiFi connection stops working as well??? Very strange and makes me wonder what exactly is going on here.

Open the browser, Menu -> Settings -> General. Change the browser from 'Internet Browser' to 'Wifi Browser', save & exit. Now lounch the browser again and it will use a direct IP connection and not go through carrier/RIMs proxies.

Thanks Riviepop,
Unfortunately that didn't disconnect me from the proxy servers???? I cleared the cache and everything else and it still reports the IP address as a RIM server???
