Default Any way around verizons data plan

Please Login to Remove!

I dont mind having a data plan such a a pay as you go data plan because I would simply not use any data. How ever it seems verizon has done away with the pay as you go plan. Is there any other way for me to activate my 7250 with out any extra monthly charge?

You really need to ask Verizon those questions about government discounts.

Default perhaps...

Just got off the phone with a gal in the Dublin, OH service center and she explained I could still get the "pay as you go" plan for my Pearl. Having spoke to 5 other CSR's prior I was skeptical. I asked many questions and then repeated them just to confirm. She assured me that I would not be charged any monthly fee but only for actual usage, .005 per kb. Since I have no intentions of using data or texting at this time I expect to only see my voice plan rates on my bill.

The CSR I spoke with was not new and didn’t have to ask me to hold every other question so she could ask her manager. She was an veteran CSR.

I’ll update this in a month.

is that 0.005 cents or $0.005 per KB. i am gonna laugh at the first $1000 phone bill with that one. or when VZW automatically adds the plan on to your account. (they know about the loophole and will close it eventually)

Cool Vodafone UK

Hi, newbie here and very much interested in the thread: switched from a bogdown cheap-and-cheerful standard Nokia N73 - and an Ericcsson P900 before that - all too happy to surf the net and "pull" mail with no data plan to find out that none of the above is possible on my recently acquired BB 8820??? What's the score here? Vodafone UK are asking an extra £ 15 a month to put me on a basic data plan when my average data consumption on a pay-as-you-go basis as it's been so far has been a much more reasonable £ 2 - 3 a month. It's not that I can't afford it but the fact that I can doesn't justify my going off and throwing an extra £ 140 plus a year to the comms companies for effectively only the in my case not-strictly-necessary benefit of push e-mail.

Any chance the BB could get surfing the internet at all with no data plans involved? At present it always shows gprs/edge next to the signal strength indicator in lower case - presumably due to the absence of the said plan - which means "no data under any circumstances".

On some sites other people claim it's possible but the settings they suggest I should try on my BB don't seem to have any effect. Cheers,

Piero

I just ordered a Blackberry 7250 off of eBay and I cannot wait to get it! Anyways, right now I have a Moto Q with Verizon and I have no data plan. You don't need a data plan to activate a PDA phone with Verizon. You can actually activate it yourself online, no need to call them or go into the store at all. Just adding my two cents.

99% sure you won't be able to activate that online for the first time, but I could be wrong.

You are 99% wrong a BB is a different animal that a Q. You have to have a data plan on the BB with verizon. I am 100% positive on this because i have been trying every CSR I can the last three weeks.

I even contacted a couple friends that work higher level at VZW and they can't make it happen either. NO EXCEPTIONS is what I keep running into.

I was working on this yesterday Dawg

Well I didn't know that. That makes no sense, and quite stupid if you ask me. If will automatically add it to your account once you activate the phone? That's dumb. What is the cheapest to add? Can it just be a pay and go type thing? I might have to change my mind on this deal and get my money back.

If you want a blackberry without a data plan on Verizon's network, you can try PagePlus. It is a MVNO which uses Verizon's network and the rates are reasonably acceptable. I am currently on PagePlus with my 7250 and it has been pretty reliable. I use as a basic phone and send SMS once in a while.

Unhappy 7290 BB- cannot create a BIS acct

Hi
I am a newbie so bare with me.

I just purchased a blackberry 7290 T-mobile- refurbished on Ebay. I signed up for rogers voice and data plan but can't get the BB to work for e-mail.
I went on the Rogers BIS service to enter the PIN # and it says the account is in use or already registered to another user.

Any ideas as to who is responsible to release the PIN?
Rogers won't help me. I checked with T-mobile and they told me that the BB should update the PIN # automatically within 3 days. T-mobile said that only RIM can release the PIN #. I don't know where to turn. I have asked my Ebay seller for help and they told me to remove the IT policy. I did that. It still does not work so I asked them to help me but no response yet.

Does anyone know how this can be fixed?

( I live in toronto but this phone came from the States)

If the account has been registered elsewhere, you need to get the previous owner to release the PIN from their previous account. That is where you should start. If the eBay seller won't help you after asking, you could demand your money back and/or leave appropropriate feedback. Rogers can't help you, as it was not registed with them previously, was it?

TMo might relase the PIN for you, if you call and ask politely. They don't have to do so, and you should explain you bought it used off eBay, and keep your fingers crossed.

Well Dawg is correct, not that I doubted him. I called yesterday and you do have to have a data plan with Verizon, which sucks. But I noticed that Blackberry data plans are cheaper than the other PDA data plans, which is good. You can get 450 anytime minutes, with unlimited data and a 500 TXT, unlimited to Verizon customers text package for $79.99, which isn't to shabby if you ask me. Just the data plan is $69.99. When I first got my Moto Q the unlimited data was $99.99, so it's a bit cheaper. Thanks for all of the info before I got my new Blackberry, very helpful. I guess I'll have to have a data plan.

the data plan does not have to be $69.99. you can get a vzw data plan for $30 if you are not attached to a BES.
