Default Calender Synchronisation

Please Login to Remove!

I've recently started work at a company that uses BES with Microsoft Exchange 2003.

I've read the information in the BES version thread and determined we are running version 4.0.x

We are having a problem with Calender synchronisation. Basically, if we enter appointments in Outlook on our PCs these successfully synchronise (wirelessly) to the devices, but if we enter appointments on our Blackberry handhelds these do not synchronise back to Outlook.

Can anyone offer any pointers to how I can solve the problem?

This issue is caused by one of two things:

1. Mismatched CDO.dll versions between the BES and Exchange

2. Permissions for the BESAdmin account are not set correctly or are not working

If the CDO.dll version is lower on the BES than what is on the Exchange Server this can happen. This can alos happen if the Exchange Server is Service Pack 2 and the BES Service Pack Level is less than 4. BES requires SP 4 or higher to fully support Exchange 2003 SP2

Here is a KB that should help your admins fix the issue:

...thanks for that information Gibson.

I had a quick browse through the forum to see if other users had similar problems, and took a look at the MAGT log after I'd entered a test appointment on my handheld. It generated a large number of errors!

Is there any way of determing if our BES is service packed? I've got a feeling it isn't and is on plain 4.0

In the BB Manager go to Help>About and you will see the version. The third number is the service pack, eg. 4.0.4.16 is SP4.

Let us know if you have any questions.

Thanks gibson, it says 4.0.7.9

...this suggests to me it is higher than SP4?

A quick look at the link you provided helped determine the version of cdo.dll on our exchange server is higher than that on the BES.

There were multiple copies on both servers, but the version on the Exchange server was definately higher - 6.5.7651.61

Talking Sorted!

Managed to solve the problem!

The Service Account being used by the BES Services didn't have the 'Administer Information Store', 'Recieve As' and 'Send As' permissions. As soon as I granted these it started working.

Thanks Gibson!
