Default Personal Phone Activation On Bes?

Please Login to Remove!

Hey i have a user here at our company that went out and bought his own blackberry and wants to get it on the bes server. What kind of complications can i expect with doing this? There is only one downfall that i can think of is that when he has trouble he has to call his provider and not me. Anyone got anyother downfalls from doing this?

Thanks
Cavy

The issues are more around human ones rather than technical -

1) Make sure you have a defined "when you leave" policy which includes whether you can wipe his device, plus make sure you push out and apply a 'default' policy to his device when they leave...

2) Do you have phone call/sms logging enabled - is that permissable on his personal device?

3) Do you allow the user to access 3rd party email services - e.g. gmail or similar

4) Are their any other IT policies he might not like on his device on the BES - e.g forces password/password change etc.

We now have a policy not allowing personal BB devices on the corporate BES. Too many headaches and you have no control when (not if) the carrier messes up the account and the data plan is not provisioned properly.

We've also recently changed our policy to deny personal phones for our corproate use. If a person needs to use a cell phone for work purposes, they are issued one.
