Default 7230 updates to v4 :: Problem

Please Login to Remove!

Hi guys,

I have been upgrading our company's 7230 Blackberry units from v3.6 to v4.

Now what i have been doing is loading the Desktop Manager v4 onto one computer at each branch around the country and updating the units from that branch to v4 from that one computer remotley from Head Office.

now after they are updated, there does not seem to be any Email Reconciliation option anymore.

Now if the user has a computer with the Desktop Manager Software on it (they have v3.6) and they Snyc there blackberry's. the Email Reconciliation option will appear.

Now the Problem is...for those that do not have computers, they do not have the Email Reconciliation option. and without that.... no email!! yikes. there are alot with blackberries and no desktop computers.

does anyone know any tips, hints or own experiances with this?

i guess the only other option i know is to call them all back update them here (where the BES server is) and then send them back out. but that is alot too call back and lost time.

if someone could help me out a bit id appricate it. any other questions dont hesitaite to ask!

Thanks in advance

Chris

well if they don't have PCs they obviously can't sync through the PC, but with BES 3.6 as long as you have enabled wireless sync they wont have the option available on the device...

delete the service books, reset device, regenerate encryption key.
you should then have the Email Reconciliation option again.

Not from some one elses login, it must be your own.
The encryption key needs to be writen into your mailbox information on the server.

if your BES is also version 4;
Settings => Options => Security [scroll down and highlight service] => (wheel)Regenerate Encryption Key

you can get away with deleting [CMIME] only but I would also delete [SYNC] to be sure to get a new copy of that too.
No need to delete them all, sorry, should have added that point.

At the moment, we are running Domino BES 2.2. Is there a way to re-generate the encryption key remotly without having the unit back at head office where the BES is? alot of users do not have the Desktop Software.

We were advised not to instal BES 4 untll all of the Blackberry's are running v4. what do you or anyone think about that? because the feature of re-generating the encryption key sounds great.

Thanks

With BES 2.2 your users can only generate the encryption key via the cable.

I would ignore the advice about putting off your upgrade.
Upgrade to BES 4 if you have it, then roll out the handheld upgrades as you are able to.
That way any handhelds in your fleet that do have version 4 OS will get the benefit of the upgrade straight away.
Handhelds with old firmware will work as they do now with BES 2.2 untill you upgrade them.

acually, one more question.

if i upgraded the BES to 4, then upgraded the handheld to v4. can i then push encryption keys out to them to get the reconcililiation to work??

(thus not having to call them back to where the bes is to plug them in)

Thanks
