Default Desktop Sync

Please Login to Remove!

While connected via USB to my desktop, the handheld appears to reconcile only when I manually click the "sync now" button or disconnect and reconnect it. I am not running BES but using Redirector. It seems to me that the handheld should be syncing real time while connected to the desktop. I am using a 7250 and running MS XP and Exchange Server. Any insights would be most appreciated.

Welcome to BlackBerryForums!

Nope; redirector does not sync in real time. You must sync manually..

Oh, very interesting!
So the Blackberry doesn't receive email automatically/wirelessly?

Sorry if the question sounds stupid, I just need to know how it works, you know?

Sync does not mean push. The redirector PUSHES e-mail to the device. That's about it.

Sync is short for synchronize. When you read an e-mail and delete it on your BlackBerry, the redirector does not synchronize that e-mail automatically. Nothing is synchronized automatically when using the redirector. WHen using a BlackBerry Enterprise Servers before v4.0, your e-mail and calendar are synced automatically and when using 4.0 the e-mail, calendar, notes and tasks are all synced wirelessly.

It sounds like BES is the preferred way to go but it would mean $$ for my company. They're looking to use the redirector to receive emails in a timely fashion on the Blackberry. Is this a viable alternative to the BES?

Say someone sends me an email and I'm using redirector, will my Blackberry receive it if the unit isn't attached to the PC? If I'm walking around, say?

And then an added snag for me is I'm using a Mac. I have to see if PocketMac does what redirector does.

Thanks again
