Default Big Problem: Google Maps and my Sprint 8330

Please Login to Remove!

I only get the 1700 meters pos. location. I now have a menu option for <Bluetooth GPS> where I didn't have that with my 8830. It would appear that Sprint has locked out mapping/GPS except for with the RIM and Sprint clients, ie BB Maps and Telenav.

I am able to use GPS with Berry411 though.

Any thoughts? Class? Bueller?

AFAIK, GPS is not locked on the Sprint 8830.

For a GPS fix, you need to be outside with a clear view of the sky. It can take as long as 10 minutes or more to find the sats and locate you. The device first needs to download the ephemeris tables so it knows where to look for the satellites, then it needs to grab the signal.

GPS works fine with Google maps on my Sprint 8830. As Dubdub states, if you're not outside, your location will not be GPS - but rather your location in relation to the nearest cell towers.

Not on my handset thus far. Even outside i'm only getting w/in 1700 meters. Do you guys have the option for <Bluetooth GPS> in the menu in Google maps?

Just a thought - check the permissions for Google Maps under Options - Advanced - Applications and make sure it is allowed to access your device GPS. Perhaps you hit no and don't ask me again when installing.....

Yep. Did that as well. I'm still curious if those with Google Maps on their 8330 have that bluetooth gps addition to their menus as well.

I'm having this same issue with my 8330. The closest I can get is 1700meters. The bluetooth option is just part of the newer GM program. I had that option on my8130 also.

same exact problem here!
but i'm 99.99% sure it's something with GM.
with BBMaps and telenav, gps location is on the dot.

when i had my 8130 last week, even indoors, it'd give my location within 10 meters. best i had with the 8130 was 3 meters.
8330 doesnt seem to even go to 1400m. it's always always always on 1700m.

It's definitely compatible. I have it installed on mine fine but for some reason it won't read the GPS and only uses the triantulation.

I'm such a dork. I just realized that I put the title of the thread with the wrong device. The problem I've been having is with my new 8330. GM worked just fine on my 8830. Lol.

by compatible i meant that the gps for 8330 and GM are not compatible. i also get the triangulation. but i want to have that 10 meters location part back.
