Volume Adjustment
Please Login to Remove!
Since upgrading to OS 4.5 on my Curve 8310, my volumes on the speaker for music and videos has dropped significantly. I used to be the life of the party literally showing people movies, clips, music, etc. Now its barely loud enough to let 1-2 people hear at very close range and thats with audio boost on. Is there any settings or software that can give me back my default volume which was more than satisfying ?

I don't believe so and I don't think the volume issue is high on RIM's priority list.

Then is there a reason why my overall volume levels decreased after upgrading the OS ? I am now at OS 4.5.44 and the volumes are not nearly as loud compared to when I first purchased the phone.

Volume Boost
You probably had your volume Boosted before your upgrade and forgot about it. The upgrade would set it back to normal. Go into the Multmedia program that plays your audio & video files. Press the BB button and go into options. Toward the bottom you will find the option to boost the audio. It will give you a warning that it could be harmfull to boost the volume above safe levels. Just say OK and you are all set. You can be the life of the party again. Hope this helps and is what you are looking for.

That is why I loved this forum, is like going window shopping, you find out things you did not realize you need, until you see them. I read this post, I checked and my sound too had been reset to normal in the upgrade. I am never the live of the party , but I sometimes need to use the speaker and I had notice the decline in volume.
Thanks for asking Chevyguy and thanks for the reply Codemax!

i think it decreased because now you have option of headset equalizer.... if you set it to loud then it will give the volume that you are expecting....

Chevyguy, I've also noticed that too and no setting adjustments have worked. It seems the volume isn't what ity used to be with older OS's. I'm running 4.5.052 on my 8300.

Glad to see that I am not the only one noticing this. Hopefully a moderator or someone with a bit more expertise, can look further into this matter.
An example, a friend of mine was completely sold on purchasing a BB Curve when I first got mine, sadly he changed his mind after I upgraded the OS and he to noticed a significant sound level drop. He works in a very noisy environment and loved the clear sufficient sound the curve had to offer.

I've turned on the boost but I'm asked to confirm and accept the potential hazards to my hearing almost everytime I access the media player. Did I miss something?

Perfect. My sole gripe w/4.5 turns out to be my fault, not the os. Love it!
Thanks,

Glad to see the volume increases for you after audio boost is turned on. Mine remains the same even after boost is turned ON. It still remains as a "gripe" with the OS on my side unfortunately.

Go in to profiles at the bottom there is ADVANCED click there! Here you can adjust your RINGTONE VOLUME to MEDIUM OR LOUD! Also here you can adjust what ringtone you hear for your different email account, etc.

no setting adjustment has done anything to increase volume for me, nothing works, I believe it's the nature of the OS...I work in a wafer fab where the decibel noise level is fairly high, and since the 4.5 upgrade, I've been missing calls cuz I can't hear the ringer...If you work in a quieter environment, I don't think you will notice that the volume has decreased with the 4.5 upgrade, but me, I can definitely hear the difference.

AMEN !!! Now we're getting somewhere. Hopefully for those of us who seem to be affected by the drop of overall sound, investigations and answers might start taking place, (hopefully).

I am having the same issue. Is there a program that could be installed to raise the volume. I wish I could undo the software upgrade.

I believe you can, hockeymn25. Simply download the older OS and follow the same directions... I've seen instructions for the 8300...
Good luck.

It happened to me as soon as I upgraded to 4.5.0.52. I had not used any 4.5 OS previously, so I'm not sure if the other 4.5 OS's had the same problem. I previously had 4.2.2.184. I have an 8320...
I have tried all of the adjustments and there is only a minor improvement compared to my 4.2 OS.
