Default New OS for mine?

Please Login to Remove!

A couple of weeks or so I saw a lot of talk about new phone BB OS's and read into them, but then wasn't sure if they were necessarily available for my phone. I mean, I saw that they had them for the Curve 8310, but then thought I read that it 'may' vary per carrier. I am using AT&T. So can someone tell me if there were in deed recent OS upgrades/updates? If so, how does this coincide with my specific carrier?

Also, how can I check which OS I have and whether or not I am truly using the most current? Got my phone back in February and haven't updated the OS on it as of yet.

And lastly, in updating this, is there anything to be aware of so that one does not loose data, applications, etc...? I mean, Does it update around all of that or does it wipe things clean, add new software, and then go from there?

Thanks for any and all help your folks can provide!

You can find all the info you need here:

http://www.blackberryforums.com/gene...ilanguage.html

To find your OS version look in Options >About on your device.

The update makes a backup, wipes the device and the OS, reloads the new OS and restores your backup when it's done.

Thanks for the link.

Am wondering if I should bother updating? Doesn't seem to be much between 4.2 and 4.5 as far as a major update. I don't have any issues with my gear now and use my BB mostly for personal use and therefore do not setup to a server at work or anything of the like.

Will it hurt me if I do not update to 4.5 OS? I know... kind of dumb question, but I just don't want to create issues for myself in doing so especially after some of the things I have read in that post and others.

And lastly, is the backup it does different than the one I can do from DM? I ask because I have had issues with this backing up and then properly restoring games I have bought and therefore losing that particular game in the process.

Thanks much for the further help and whatnot!

No, you shouldn't have any problems upgrading.

If you've seen the threads here, then you know the updates that are spoken of, if you don't need those, then don't fix what is not broken. Enjoy your BB as it is.

Everyone on here (and other forums also) seems to be almost too itchy to jump the the new 4.5 OS. IMHO, if my device isn't broken and it works great for how I use it and my carrier has not released an official version, then why do I need to upgrade and risk turning my BB into a brick? I know the chance is slim, but really, why take the chance?

Just my 2 cents.

I have only had my BB a couple of days, and have been reading about the OS updates with interest, the only thing that is attracting me is the addition of native HTML eMail support.

so IMO, I'm not gonna bother... for now... lol

I updated my AT&T 8310 from 4.2 to 4.5. It's working fine.
