Default An OS 4.5 annoyance w/ HTML email...

Please Login to Remove!

Hi all...Can anyone please help me with this?

I am on my fifth OS 4.5 beta, and it's always the same story. Whenever I open an email that has images in it, I have to click on "Get Images" EVERY single time.

Is there a way around that? I've looked through every last page in the Settings and Advanced Settings but no dice. Is there a workaround I'm unaware of?

Thanks everyone!

While in your Messages App: Press the Menu >> Options >> Email Settings
Set Download Images Automatically.

I find that most images download in my emails. Some emails require you to "Get Images" even though the above setting is already set.

Wirelessly posted (Your Electric?)

The bb will not go out and grab images that are not directly hosted by whom sent the email.

Say someone sends you an html email but the images are hosted on photobucket, the bb will not auto download. I can only assume this is a secruity precaution.

I did set it to "Download Images Automatically", which is the default setting anyway. Will this be the same deal on the Bold? Any Bold users??

Just to chime in....I hate it. I used to get some e-mails that were formatted for reading, and some of those now are "attempted" to turn to HTML, but now they are just unreadable....

yeah, i have to say that the html is 4.5 leaves a lot to be desired. i got better results with empower. some people are saying that its just because 4.5 hasn't been fine tuned enough and that subsequent versions will make the html email better.

I think the HTML works great. Certainly better then that garbled mess we used to get with 4.2.

4.5.0.52 html is lagging. i only see the pictures that are embedded in the e-mail, and NOT when they are hosted on a server. even dl the images does not work. kind of lame, but since it isn't an "official release" from t-mobile, there's no room to complain.

I had high hopes for the HTML email when I upgraded to 4.5.0.56, but the HTML email just wasn't as good as EMPower. So I'm continuing to use the EMPower email program for now. It seems to work very well with 4.5. I'm really wondering why RIM can't give us some of the basic functionality that most other smartphones already have.

It's a security issue. When images are hosted remotely selecting 'Get images' fro the menu will popup a prompt asking you to confirm because hosted images can be used to identify the recipient.

I have Empower also, lost it in the upgrade to .69.
So I thought I would use the new BB HTML, even though EMV has more options, I think I may stick with the 4.5 embedded for now.

yes, i know. even when i allow the dl all images (exposing my identity), it will re-dl all images (show message as 'new'), but still show images as blank boxes. argh.

Are you on a BES? If so, it may be a security issue (or some other issue) on the BES. My work email (on the BES) exhbits the behavior you describe. My regular POP3 email account downloads and displays the images and the email properly. Once downloaded, the images are stored in the BB's cache because if I then view an email with the same images on the BES account, they appear fine.

I emailed our help desk and they acknowledged the issue and said they recreated the issue and would look into it. That was a few weeks ago. I don't expect a response.

No, BIS. i only see e-mail embedded images. anywho, it's not a deal breaker, i like the 'rich text' look anyway. oh well.

i've thrown every at it plus the kitchen sick to get the image to show, but to no avail.
(1) message options>email settings: enable HTML & DL image automatically, plus battery pull
(2) Re-send service books from phone, plus battery pull
(3) Re-send service books from BIS, plus battery pull
(4) Delete service books, re-created accounts, plus battery pull

Is there a difference running pop3 vs imap with the image fetching? i have pop3 disabled and imap enabled. I like the IMAP functionality of my Outlook, so I'm not likely to change it. I've also read that enabling pop3 AND IMAP will result in intermittent e-mail retrieval because of conflicts.

I have just upgraded to 4.5.0.77 and do not have the option to Download Images Automatically. I'm on the Telus network (if that makes a difference).
Am I missing something?

my images download automatically whether theyre embedded in the email, or displayed with an <img> tag in the html source. so youre all doing something strange. although after testing i recommend turning OFF auto download because it does indeed let spammers know that they hit a live target
