Default Curve vs World Edition

Please Login to Remove!

Considering returning to the BB world after a horrible experience with the HTC Touch. My company does not have BES, and wireless sync of calendar and contacts is a must. I think I may have that beat with the Astrasync software coming out soon. My question is what is the real difference between the curve and the world edition. I did a comparison on VZw's website, and I really could not find anything substantive except for the world edition being slightly larger and bigger. Any help would be appreciated.

There's a handful of differences. To name a few:

The World Edition is a world phone (hybrid CDMA/GSM) and will function overseas on GSM networks. Curve is CDMA only.

The Curve has a camera. World Edition doesn't.

Curve is physically smaller and keyboard is different.

Curve ships with OS 4.3.0 and the World Edition ships with OS 4.2.2.

Curve has 96mb of memory, WE has 64mb.

Curve has a camera
Curve keyboard has more spacing between keys
Curve requires battery removal to get to the media card (World Edition doesn't)

World Edition has a more responsive trackball (seems like a small thing, but having owned both it is noticeable and somewhat annoying on the Curve)
World Edition has slightly better build quality, imo
World Edition......the whole World Edition thing

Thanks for the feedback folks. So based on this info, if either of you did not have the devices you have now, which one would you choose. And have either of you heard about Astrasync and would consider using it, or are you lucky enough to have BES.

I have both and prefer the Curve. Love the camera, love using MMS, love the keyboard layout and smaller, sleeker design. The World is bigger and seem more suited for business uses, IMHO.

That's a tougher call for me. I still like my 8830 (gave it to the wife) and like it almost as much as my Curve. The Curve's increased memory, camera and keyboard take it over the top for me though. My main gripe with the Curve is the trackball (in light of the quality of the 8830's). My main gripe with the World Edition is the cramped keyboard.

Thanks again for the feedback. I think I am sold on the Curve. Looking forward to picking one up over the weekend. Cannot wait to get rid of the HTC Touch.

Same here I have had the 8130, 8830 and the 8330. I like the Curve the best. The main problem I had with the 8830 was the keyboard light, it was very hard for me to see the keys.

I took care of that with the black case mod. LOVE THAT! Wish there was one for the 8330. Always got so many question every time I went into the VZW store

But you're right, the original backlight was horrible compared to the Curve.

Ya it seems like the 8330 parts are taking a long time.

The Verizon Curve is great. The light problem is easily fixed by a new keyboard. Make sure who ever you go with has the service you need, not the BB.

I definitely like my curve over the 8800... though the new Storm (world edition as well) is coming out and will try that too.

If you want a more responsive trackball go to options - home screen/keyboard - tune up the trackball sensitivity

I've had both the 8830 World and the 8330 Curve and much prefer the Curve. Hated the blue keyboard on the World although I could have changed it to black. Never did though. Got the Curve instead.
