Default Bold extremely buggy?

Is it just me, or does the Bold seem to have a lot of issues? A daily quick scan of thread subjects reveals numerous problems people are having.

I get that it is first gen with a lot of new tech, but still, has any other BB release been this bad?

Hopefully, the delay in North America is because AT&T wants to address all this issues.

Mine is 2 days old, but no issues to speak of yet - I am very happy and impressed.

Running 4.6.0.92 - which is old if you read some of these posts, but is the version that Telstra in Australia are recommending.

New users.
New device.
New OS.

Results in a lot of threads... But nothing unusual for a new device.

I was a new user to BB, started with the Curve. And what I loved about it then after using PalmOS, WinMo, UIQ and S60 was how straightforward and reliable it was. Not so with the Bold. The Bold is buggy, not a deal breaker but don't expect the same "pick up and go" as the Curve. Sorry...

My Bold has given me more errors than any previous model, but they're still pretty rare. And they've all been recoverable without any more than a soft reset, which is nice. Like receiving total consciousness on your death bed!

I am looking forward to AT&T fixing these issues!

Also remember, in this or any other related technology forum, it will always appear that there is a much higher incidence of problems then actually occurs in reality.

People don't tend to write alot of posts like "Bold working great, totally uneventful day where everything performed as expected" every time that happens. However, if they see something they think is strange/wrong, they will post about it immediately.

I think if you really want to answer your own question, take a quick ook through the "old" BB forums (like for the 8800 that I use, or the 8820). You will see that they are brimming with reports of bugs, errors, etc.

Think of these forums as sort of a "reality filter". They filter out all of the normal, problem free, uneventful experiences people have with the new BB, and present you with information from:
  • people who LOVE their new Bold so much they want to tell everyone how great it is
  • people who have learned some new tip/trick that might be helpful to other users, and are kind enough to share the info
  • people who have some sort of problem/bug (real or perceived) that they want a solution for.

That's it. A very small percentage of the Bold user base.

I read these same forums every day, and based on what I see, the Bold seems to be a pretty smooth new release with no killer bugs. I am still glad that many of the minor issues will be worked out by the time I eventually get mine from AT&T.
