hey just a quick question for u guys...i have verizon...and my phone jsut recently broke..and a friend of mine has a old blackberry of his that i would b able to use...i have a basic plan with verizon..jsut calls pix/text messages and i dont want to change my plan...do i have to add the data plan to b able to use the blackberry of can i jsut use it for call n text without it.thanks.

You don't NEED a data plan to use a BB as a phone,PIM,or Text device but it's more fun to have a plan. I don't have a plan and love mine.

Also, someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I think Verizon will have you add the Blackberry data account once the ESN registers as a Blackberry device.

I believe you're right. I think Verizon BB's must have a BB data plan.

With most carriers this can be done. Your best bet would to be to call Verizon and let them know your situation. They will give you a definite answer.

It is not possible to activate a Blackberry without a data plan. If no data plan is attached the ESN change order will be incomplete and will not save.

Not sure about Verizon (but others are) I know with AT&T you can use a BB without a data plan. That is what I am currently doing b/c for my fiance and I to both have a data plan on our phones it will add an additional 60 bucks to our bill.

This is not the case with Verizon, it is required.

You will be required to get BB Data plan. . . probably would be cheaper to buy a replacement phone than pay BB Data Plan Monthly fees . . . take BB from your friend and sell or trade BB for another phone... make sure to thank your friend enough and explain situation ...
