Default Move BES to new hardware + starting fresh. Assistance needed

Please Login to Remove!

I'm sure this is answered somewhere here but I couldn't find it so I apologize in advance.

Our original BES barfed one day, like over a year ago, and with the help of t-support we did what I believe was a NE cutover. THE BES is now on a VM and working well. One thing I notice is that when I open BB manager the name of the server *(left pane) is that of the old server and not the of the VM. Clicking on the "Servers" on the left pane displays , on the right pane the "service name" as the old server and the "host name" as the VM server. Like I said, all is running well. The old server still has BES installed but all services have been disabled. The DB is on our SQL server.

Now we are going through an infastructure upgrade. We'd like to build a new, up to date, BES server (currently 4.1.3) and then move all users to it. Once that is done and working properly the original server will be decomissioned, as will the old VM machine.

So what I am looking for is help, guidance, a link to some documentation, etc. so we can do this right. Luckily, I have some time to read up as the hardware won't be in for another week or so, plus some other new builds will take priority over the BES rebuild.

Any and all assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

OK, that was good reading.

Going back to the old original and the VM. The original server name was xxxxxxxx-bus1. The vm server name is xxxxxxxx-vmbes. I'm not sure what the new server will be called. When t-support and I got us back up and running why did the server names listed under "Servers" on the left side of the BB manager remain as xxxxxxxx-bus1? They also had us not uninstall BES from bus1 but rather just stop and disable all BES services?

Thanks

Looks like they share the same data base and never removed the old one.
If it is really offline what happens when you turn it off?

The DB (BESMgmt) is on our SQL server. It is the same one we've used since day one.

BES on the old server(bus1) is disabled but the server is still up and running. It is doing a whole bunch of other things, like BU Exec, Home and Profiles, etc. All that stuff will be migrated to the new servers and then Bus1 gets decomissioned.
