Default Bold and VoIP

Please Login to Remove!

Hi, Has anyone tried adding a VoIP account to their Bold? I just bought a bold and it doesn't get reception at my office. I thought one solution might be to somehow add a voip account to the handset and divert out of coverage calls to the voip indial number. That way the Wifi will take over when the coverage fails

Thanks
Damien

This app is VoIP based but can (currently) only use your carrier data connection and not wifi. Per their support that functionality is coming.

Get VoIP on your Mobile and Make Cheap Calls with Truphone

Truphone is just an outbound dial around service for saving long distance charges.

thanks everyone. Then my problem remains. The reception is appalling. Are there any applications that improve the bold's reception? All other brand of handsets work in this area

Here are two services that offer bi-directional VOIP service for any mobile phones.

Rebtel or Stanacard (Search on Google with the names and VOIP)

These services offer competitive calling rates of 2 to 6 cents/min for many major countries.
The only nuisance is that you have to be assigned of a local number for each international number you want to call and then store it under the person's name on your BB one time for each number. When you call that assigned number, your call goes to a local number and gets routed through the VOIP service to the intended international number.
If you don't travel outside the country, these services will work for you fully.

However, if you are traveling abroad all the time, like I do, then, the roaming charges still apply f unless you use a local SIM chip to make the call, which kills the push email functions of the BB.

The other solution is to carry a local phone together with a BB when traveling and use it with these services for phone calls while having access to emails and SMS messages from the BB.
