Anyone Get verizon's GPS to work yet?
Please Login to Remove!
I've done my homework, I know that verizon blocks GPS for 3rd party programs unless you purchase VZNavigator.
I have purchased VZNavigator, and I can get the GPS to work with BB Maps.
My question is, Has anybody gotten it to work with Google Maps yet? All I can get is the 3500Meter cell tower triangulation.
Thanks!

use the search and you will see....since this device came out on the verizon network the only ONLY way to get 3rd party gps apps to work is to invest in a 3rd pary wireless gps puck.

I did the search, and the majority of the posts were from LAST December. I Also read that when it was released blackberry maps would not work with GPA either. 3 was simply wondering if anybody got it to work with google maps since Verizon flipped the switch and BB maps startede working.
Thank you,

You are absolutely incorrect. VZW 8330, 8130, and 8830 all have working GPS with BB Maps.

I wouldn't exactly call blackberry maps a third party application.

Worked for me yesterday, but quit working today. I'm wondering if this was an accident by VZW (to open up the GPS)?

This is bizarre, to me. I thought the blocking of GPS was a FIRMWARE issue. If not software, then how can this be done so selectively??

It was enabled, as I understand it, via service books, which are controlled by provider (e.g., Verizon) and there may also be server-side controls that are required as well...
I don't know, frankly, if providers can push new service books down automatically. I do know that GPS w/BB Maps worked on my Pearl w/out me having to resend service books myself.

I I'm pretty sure the 8130 does not have GPS, it just has tower triangulation and all paying for the Verizon Navigator service does is increase the accuracy with which your phone is able to locate itself. That said, once enabled it shouldn't matter what software you use.

All CDMA phone devices currently sold on the market have GPS in them, including the Blackberry. They have for years. It is required for E911. Verizon won't even activate a CDMA phone that doesn't have it. Even an old Verizon phone.

Well the 8130 I have works with GPS and BB Maps and show connected to 8 GPS Sats while driving. No VZ Nav on the BB at all.

How do you get an 8130 to show you how many GPS sats it's connected to?
I don't subscribe to VZ Nav or have it installed. I re-installed BB Maps today (took it off LONG ago) and it is working fine now to get me a GPS-accurate location. But, I don't see anywhere that lets me see GPS satellite status.

And you don't need VZ Nav installed.
