As mentioned above, it becomes a matter of keyboard preference.

I bought a Pearl in June, based solely on price point. I'm used to the SureType now, and don't like it. A friend is selling her Bold early in the new year - and I'm picking it up. I thought I could get by without the full keyboard - I was wrong.

It truly does come down to personal preference, as the basic functionality and features of the Pearl and Curve pretty much match for the most part. Visit a local retailer and play with each for a few minutes. That should help you make a decision.

You might also want to clarify which specific models you're looking at. Check the features and see what feature set you prefer. Take into account any preference for one keyboard or the other.

You can unlock and use any GSM model (i.e. not an xx30).

When do you qualify for a Hardware Upgrade? that could make a difference as well, as that buts the Bold and Curve 2 (8900) in play.

My 8100 has served me very well and I love the device. However, I will be looking to get the Curve 8900 (aka Javelin) when it arrives in the US. The main reason is that I want a full keyboard and have grown a little tired of the suretype. I also want a slightly larger screen for watching movies on my BB when I am bored on an airplane. The 8100 is just a bit small for that (my opinion).

Another thing to keep in mind is that the pearl fits in pockets more easily while the Curve is a bit bigger.

I had an 8100 long time ago, then an 8120 and liked the 8120 better because it was easier to type with it (keys felt better somehow).

depends on the keyboard. I love the size of the pearl, but the keyboard was the deciding factor for me. I have no issues with the size of my curve, and definetly love the keyboard

If you're with Rogers, then you can have the other person upgrade, then swap. I got my Pearl by adding a second phone on my account, then swapping phones. Worked like a charm after a quick call to customer service to make sure everything was set in their system.

Enjoy your Curve!
