I've been running my 1 user free version of BES pro 4.1.4 build 143 for 6 months or so on the single BB in our office (mine) and it has been a wonderful thing.

We just added a 2nd BB (boss) and now it's time to pony up and buy cals.

I'm going to buy 4.1.4a 5 cals.

Question:

What do I need to do software wise to get this installed? It would appear newer than what I have installed or can I update my current installation and just add the liscensing to activate the 5 cals? I see so many possible ways of doing this, but I want to do it right and I don't want to wipe the system as it took me a while to get things right.

Within the BlackBerry manager just add the CALS the cals you get will work on any small business BES from 4.0 to 4.1.6.

just go to Home - License Management and add in the 5 pack CAL key. This will give you the ability to add 5 more Exchange user accounts. Also, talk to RIM and see if you can get full BES keys, or if you have to get small business BES keys. i know professional will run up to 30 users, but if you ever decide to go full BES, you don't want to bother with upgrading CALs as well if you can purchase full BES keys now. the price will be the same for full BES CALs vs. small business BES CALs.

CALS can be added fine, however it can't hurnt to update to the latest version, just log into the server using the BESADMIN account and run the install, it'll install over your current install fine.
