Default Just got the 8310 (ATT). I don't think it's for me.

I love the hardware. It's amazing. The trackball, the rubber on the sides, and the great keypad. I was looking to get a Centro but Wal-Mart was out of stock. On impulse I got the Curve because I didn't want to walk away empty handed. I am not a business user and the e-mail functionality is not important to me at all. I can check my web based e-mail through a browser just fine. Palm OS is more of an open platform and there is a ton of apps, homebrew, and so forth. That's what I am into. I just need a device that has great web browsing capabilities and good media playback. Oh, and my budget is limited. The Curve was $30 w/ my upgrade and the unlimited plan, the Centro is free with plan. The keypad on the Centro is terrible but my thumbs are not huge, I could adapt. Will the Curve keep a entertainment focused power user like me happy over the life of a 2 year contract? Gameloft has a few of their games on Blackberry but the overall selection from over developers is awful. And there is very little home user created content that's free. A real bummer.

It has a decent media player, you don't have to use your corporate email, personal email works just as well. You can also download AOL and Yahoo Messenger to chat> The camara is great.

i've carried palm and windows based, as well as the iphone. love the iphone but palm and windows can't compete. IMO palm is just about dead, windows is cumbersome. Take some time and play around with it. You can adjust icons, add programs, themes, wallpaper etc.

Wirelessly posted (you serious Clark?)

Yes it takes some time getting used to, blackberry's aren't for everybody and maybe it isn't for you (no hard feelings)

It's not that the device is too complicated. I'm very technically adept and it's a breeze to use. I upgraded the OS from 4.2 to 4.5 and now the browser flies. I really love how efficient the "56K accelerator" type feature is. I can degrade the quality of all the images and the web pages show up really fast. ATT's Curve is EDGE, not 3G but it's fast enough. I'm a multimedia/entertainment power user and the BB is too business oriented. I'm so in love with the hardware though it's a shame the operating system is so closed and the software is limited.

RUN - do not walk - and return the BlackBerry. You will always yearn for the Palm OS. Not once did you mention the core strength of the BlackBerry - email. You are a multimedia/entertainment power user and will never be happy with a secure e-mail device.

Now I'm just waiting for my local Wal-Mart to get the Palm Centro in stock. I really, really love the hardware on this Blackberry Curve but it's main functionality is pretty worthless to me. And after doing some research I have discovered that things like streaming audio, video, running NES/SNES emulators, etc are much better on the Centro.

Well, I exchanged my Curve for the Centro. It was great being a Blackberry owner for a couple of days but it's just not for me. Thanks for the help.

At least you found out quick and before you were not able to return it.
