Default Problem with voice recognition

Please Login to Remove!

I have been enjoying my Storm for about a month now and have been lurking around this forum for almost as long. I very much appreciate all of the valuable information that I have read here along the way - thank you! I also really like my Storm, for the most part ( it is my first Blackberry ). The keyboard is pretty good, I can see what everyone is talking about though being the real edge of the keyboard does not click well, if at all. I also have the lapse when trying to pick up the phone, especially because I often like to go right to speaker. But overall I think it is a fascinating piece of technology.

Here is my problem that caused me to post. I am also wondering if anybody else has experienced this same thing. Not always, but very often my voice recognition hangs. I press the button on the left side, the screen turns white and says initializing and that's it. I cannot back out, I cannot do anything except shut down.

I am running version .75

Lightbulb Voice Recognition

Welcome to the forum.

I use the voice recognition a lot but have never seen the problem you describe. Two thoughts come to mind: First, given the number of known problems with the Storm OS, you might want to consider re-booting (battery pull or software equivalent) every couple of days. I have found that when I see the phone starting to bog down on any tasks, a reboot "freshens things up. There are a couple of programs (Soft Reset is one) which will perform this function.

The other possibility is to upgrade your OS to .85. I found that when I did that, a number of problems disappeared. While it is not permitted to provide a link her, you can find links to the program on Google. Type in "download blackberry 4.7.0.85" That should lead you to the source. 73

Probably a bug in the OS. I never use the Voice Recognition but you should try upgrading to .85

Thank you very much for the help! I do find that the only way to fix the problem is to reboot by pulling and reinserting the battery ( very annoying ). I guess that you are saying that even if I am not having problems to pull the battery every few days?

I am somewhat hesitant to upgrade to OS .85 due to the mixed reviews that I have seen on this forum. My Storm is working well and I don't want that to change. If I upgrade the OS can I change back?
