Has anyone used Trapster? I saw it on the news last night...looks good. Is there a fee for GPS if you are using a 3rd party application?

I tried but the map doesn't show up. It was either just a red or blue screen that came up on my 8900.

I just loaded it on my 8350i. I have not left the house this morning but it did alert me to a trap in my area.

This will probably come as no surprise, but it does NOT work on the Verizon 8330. Naturally. Verizon has GPS location based service locked to Blackberry Maps only (well, that and their VZ Navigator) therefore no other third party apps. My blood boils every time I read about a cool GPS app that, yet again, I can't use. And, yet again, one that does NOT conflict with their profits on VZ Navigator.
Whatever happened to any device on the network that the big companies were claiming would be in place by year end 2008??? I would so love to buy an Alltel (or Sprint) phone that has all of the phone's features enabled, and activate on VZW.
I feel so powerless. And it's so freaking frustrating.
So no go on Verizon 8330.

Uhhhh.... Verizon unlocked the GPS on all Verizon Blackberrys on December 1, 2008. Any apps that don't work now are because that app needs to be updated to work correctly with the BB GPS.

What is Trapster, and where can you get it? A URL is always nice with threads like this one....

Got it working. I had to change the application properties to allow all connections.

I tried Trapster today on my 8830 with GPS puck. Worked very well. Clear maps. However, the biggest pain is that the screen does not stay lit. You can't just glance down to your phone to see what's happening ahead without constantly having to press a button to have the backlight go on. There should be an option to keep it on. Other GPS software do that.

Works fine on my Storm with the built-in GPS. I showed it to a buddy the other night and then forgot I had left it running. I was driving along on the way home, listening to my favorite Internet radio station via BerryTunes (with my Storm hooked into my car stereo), when all of a sudden this voice came over my stereo and said something like "Known speed trap area ahead" or something like that. Way cool!
I don't see any reason/need to have the screen stay on. It'll tell you if you need to look at something.

Be careful with the messaging. I am not sure if this is related, but soon after I started using Trapster and their messaging service to notify me of traps outside of the BB application, I started getting billed $9.99 per month for a messaging service from some company called lazy something. I called AT&T and they reversed the charges, but it was 3 months before I found that. I am not sure it came from Trapster, but I think it did.

This absolutely did ***not*** come from Trapster. We don't do that, or anything like that, nor have we ever.

If you see a speed trap, or other law enforcement entrapment scheme, can you input the information into the sytem so it gets updated?
Also, what about these speed and stoplight cameras? Are they logged and is there a way to add them?
