Default Decision Time - Sprint or Nextel?

Please Login to Remove!

Hi Guys,

Currently with Sprint but contract up this week on older flip phone. Moving over to Blackberry this weekend or early next week.

I have to make a decision - curious about your opinions:

Stay with Sprint on their CDMA network and acquire the 7250 or go with Nextel on the iDen network and use the 7520 Blackberry?

While very similar, the 7250 is missing the Speakerphone - which I will miss having to be sure. I hear and read on the fourms so many great things about Nextels BB service and next to nothing about folks on the Sprint network with their BB's. It's been really hard to do a meaningful comparison of the services.

It looks like Sprint may have better coverage in the continental U.S. on their network to support adavanced data services including BB. GSM or international is not important for me right now.

Cost aside (I am reimbursed for these expenses) what do you guys suggest?
Thanks in advance for all of your input and comments.

Rob . . . . . . . . . .

I'd go with Nextel myself...our support is just a little better than Sprint (which Sprint is working on) but if you hang around these forums quite a bit you won't need to call tech support that much. As far as coverage it's really depending on your area, but Sprint will probably win out there.

The speaker phone is very big for me as well as the direct connect...Nextel's been doing DC for about ten years now so they're about as good as it gets there. Sprint's walkie talkie is good but the number of subscribers using it is lower and it isn't compatible right now with iden direct connect so you may want to see what other associates/friends/family members have if you want to use the walkie talkie much.

Either way Sprint and Nextel both win whatever you decide so we'll be happy for your business regardless of your choice.

eventually, won't they be the same company anyways?

or are they staying the way they currently are now?

I am now and will remain a Nextel customer for the Blackberry. Nextel does not have the best network (actually they have terrible coverage outside of major markets) but the blackberry service has worked in many places that my Verizon treo had no data service.

The 7520 has an excellent speakerphone and built-in gps that AFAIK no one else has. The GPS is the main advantage that Nextel has, using TeleNav you can get voice prompted turn based driving directions, it is awesome.
