Default Obamas "special" BlackBerry.... your thoughts

Please Login to Remove!

Right boys & girls...

So we now all know that Obama is now the first Prez to be alowed to keep his BlackBerry, but, with "extra" security....

So..... anyone wanna guess at what kind of "extras" the NSA are going to put on that bad boy??

Do we think that they've attached it to a BES or some sort of bespoke system?

How about the voice comms? encrypted? has to be routed through somewhere?

Do you think what ever they're going to do for him will be available to the public for download on the RIM site?? (ok, well that one was a joke!!)

Be great to hear all your thoughts on the subject!

Wirelessly posted (Blackberry)

IMHO they may have on the BES and also turned on encryption for it.

They probably got that phone so locked its a brick. I bet its got a high bit encryption. I'm kinda curious why they let him keep it all of a sudden.

First of all it isn't a Blackberry. It is a special NSA device, called the Sectéra® Edgexxx8482; made by General Dynamics costing about $3500.00 each. Looks more like a Treo than anything else.

All BB data runs through RIM in Canada. Do you really think the Secret Service and NSA would allow that? Give me a break.

Read about it here: Product Details - Sectéra® Edge™ SME PED - Overview

That damn thing is pretty sweet if ya ask me. Yeah that's what I was woundering. Why would NSA let info run through RIM in Canada?
Figured.

I think they took his BB and gave him the above mentioned product which appears to me to be close in comparison.

Nope,
100% he is keeping his RIM BlackBerry (currently his 8700), that $3.5k Sectéra® Edgexxx8482; device was rhoumored to have been bought for him, but it is most deffinatly the BlackBerry he is sticking with.

Been all over the news today.

So my origional question still stands!!

Well then in that case. I highly doubt whatever apps he has on his phone will not be available on the RIM site or 3rd party lmfao!

Alien peoples phone numbers and shit on the BB lmfao!

Yes he is keeping his BB, The Spectra must be used for anything government related. BB is personal use only.

What I don't get is that the Spectra is a secure and non-secure phone. So it could be used as both personal and governmental.

I don't think the NSA would allow any of his data to traverse the RIM network. When I worked for the phone company a long time ago, all their communications never traveled normal networks. There were/are secured networks and I would bet (if) his blackberry is routed to a network hub in the white house - plus NSA-type encryption.

Is not the US military and US government some of the largest blackberry users in the world?

I think they use the Spectra as stated above. With secure networks and encryptions. They might have them for personal use but not governmental. To high a risk I would assume.
